Seems unusual to sell frameset with flat mount on fork and IS rear disc tabs? I wrapped my head around the unicrown look w/ curved blades…but the straight blades is taking me longer to get into. The fact the Cyclefab won’t make any more NFE racks for a foreseeable future is also tough.
i don’t see many reasons to get an NFE over an endpoint tbh. unless you are @Andrew_Squirrel in which case carry on
Good point…and if one’s not after low trail, the new offering from Back Alley x Ratking looks like a yummy option for Cascadia steel dirt tourer.
My wife told me she could see all my trolling of people on threads which meant that everyone in my life — including coworkers and maybe even my parents — saw the shitpost version of me. And I cannot abide that. So I deleted threads from my phone.
elephant is real cool- don’t get me wrong. but it feels lik at least the “off the peg” NFE never quite kept up with ongoing changes to sensible modern developments
Velo Orange Polyvalent is an extremely cromulent low trail adventure bike option as well
Cockpit is not helping
TBF, I thought that was irony/sarcasm. Integrated front rack, discs, and really fat 650b look bespoke. It’s the kind of combo you only see on dedicated ‘alt’ bike folks who would die before buying an off-the-peg Specialized.
The handlebars are pretty high, sure, but I just figured that’s for someone older, or has back issues, who rides long distances.
IMO for curved forks, the bigger the curve, the older and more vintage the bike looks. When paired with modern black components they look way out of place. Straight blades look modern, sleek and tough - since you generally see them on rigid mountain bikes.
Maybe I’m biased because I built Snowaguchi with them? shrug
The straight blade fork reminds me of a J&B one I had on my Doublecross between when I had the flexy Soma lugged disc fork and when I got the endpoint fork.
Unicrown straight blade is fine, it just looks like generic hybrid fork atmo.
the unicrown bothers me on that because it has a cool biplane SS bridge so I feel the fork crown should match
As an NFE owner I have access to the NFE Google Group and I can confirm the every build that gets posted there is pretty awkward. I like to think mine is better but I also just copied Squirrel’s.
I’m getting a new Elephant too in this round
I made some of my own cool chromoly gizmos awhile back to pilot a new approach to that matching conundrum, and we’re finally getting around to it
spill the deets
in a month or two
Have been tempted to get Liberation make me one of their lovely forks with the biplane crown to complete the NFE package. If I ever break the stock fork, this will be the way for sure.
Agreed, the combo of incredibly nice biplane wishbone and a fork that looks like it’s off a hybrid is not a good one. I mean, I guess an ugly fork is better than spending a couple grand in dental bills but I’d rather just not have to make that choice in the first place.
Anyhoo the Hunter/Gatherers are pretty sick, can’t say that I can pinpoint anything that I feel like I’m missing out on by having one of those instead of the NFE, though segmented wishbone seatstays would be sick (and heavier and more expensive, probably).
LFG “dithering” in 2024
