Pretty much
But there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism

I want to know what @Straws said before the edit!

it revealed how I know the info and I’m not trying to blow up anyone’s spot.

Since we’re chatting about Ritchey, tangentially related: Photos from my boss. Defective stem on the right, replacement on the left.

The one on the right must have slipped in the during machining; the bars were ~10 degrees off horizontal when installed.

Most non-failing businesses seem to be run by capitalists. That’s why all of my bikes are from the dumpster or stolen from college kids

TIL that cops have special silent hubs?

The scent of marijuana drew him like a homing pigeon. “In a car, you’re too distant to smell anything, and too visible to catch people,” says instructor Chris Whaley of Orillia, Ontario, who has been a bicycle cop for four years. “But on a bike, silently cruising at 5 miles per hour, you ride right up to them. Most of the time, you catch the perpetrator so off-guard that he doesn’t resist.” But even though this pot-smoking perp bolted into the crowd and lost Whaley in traffic, the man on the Trek police mountain bike with police-only Shimano Nexave Silent Clutch hubs wouldn’t be denied.
Fifteen minutes later, quietly threading his way through groups of people, around fire hydrants, over curbs and down stairs, Whaley rolled up to a street corner and stopped right beside the small-time dope dealer, who was too surprised–and now too stoned—to resist. “Hey, aren’t you the dude who was chasing me a while ago?” said the man, who this time went peacefully.

This would have made The Blues Brothers a much different movie.

It’s got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks, cop silent clutch hubs.

I think those are for 7-speed cassettes, unless the police-only ones are a different Nexave than the T300s that show up on ebay & in the used pile at bike shops.

Poor ditherer’s Onyx hub.

Also supposed to be crazy heavy because there’s a thick steel drive ring to handle the roller clutch loads.

They were also popular for snow biking before fat tires became a thing.

They are pretty heavy; a 24” wheel with one of them + a 1” pasala is noticably heavier than a 700c wheel with a deore hub + a Nomad 28. But, like the Onyx, all if that weight is by the axle so it mainly slows down your weight-weenie tendencies.

fucking gross.

loosen those cop bike pedals if anyone gets a chance

The only good thing to come from the stem shock is the outside is fred video on ig.

Have I seen it? Is it better than the one I made?

this is great. but the fred video is other worldly.

why is internet broken

I fix cop bikes and deal with bike cops. Generally they are the least shitty of the cops I deal with. Still cops, so less shitty is relative.

Counterpoint: cops who talk to the public all day long tend to see the good side of people and spend less time living in some punisher gun nut fantasy where everyone is an asshole perp. Community policing is as much for the bacon as for the community.

All cops are bastards, but some are less dangerous than others.
