Bike blerg thread

I don’t know anything about the rug business but his are multiple bongs with an average around $4000.

i had a friend in the rug biz a few decade ago and questioned the same thing. he said they made a shit load of money cleaning rugs because they could charge whateverthefuck because it was all super high end rugs.

and then there’s the other rug dudes that have endless inventory, what doesnt sell gets taken to trade shows, what doesnt sell from there gets put in a van and driven around town. then theyll come into your house, start laying down rugs down in your house without really even asking, show you how amazing this new rug looks in your house (they usually arent wrong) and THEN drop the price on you. At which point most folks would say fuck it and make the purchase. But sometimes they come across a real broke mother fucker like me and waste their entire day for nothing.

I think there’s money to be had in the industry, especially if you’re void of shame.

Honestly shart is kind of new, this nomenclature pre dates many of Tarx current posters

He’s a genuinely nice guy (met him at Nutmeg last year) but yeah, a little bike-cool-guy-event-pilled and it’s hard to just like, hang out with a dude who is so obsessed with filming/videography/picture taking (kind of more of a critique of that Type of Guy rather than him personally tho).

It predates me and I think I might’ve started posting in 2010?

Yeah, it was like, early BrianForums transition days if not before that

lol it is sort of the thing that has ruined a lot of biking/outdoor videos for me. It’s all chill and vibes but I know to get that shot that you had to set your camera down, ride back around the corner out of sight, right back into sight and past the camera, then back again to get the camera. Which is another thing that Tim seems to not do in his vids, but thinking about the videographic sausage making is a bummer.

lol, 1000%. It will never not be hilarious to me to actually watch these guys doing this shit. I don’t know how their closer friends/partners stand it, I would go completely insane

even riding with friends, whoever is shooting needs to ride up ahead to get the cool shot of someone rounding a corner or doing the feature. so much less cinematic but more authentic to just see the view from the selfie cam on an outstretched arm with everyone having a good time

same for a lot of things, basically be a shitty/aggressive person and get paid because other people don’t want to be dicks

it’s funny how if you ask GPT “what’s the deal with oriental rugs and oriental rug stores”, it shows that people online have been speculating about the rug business for a while now.

But separate from that, what I’d gathered is: no one really knows the cost to acquire them, and they sound handmade and exotic so sellers can put high margins on them

Also, a lot of rug stores were opened by Iranian exiles post-revolution, and often they had startup capital and could purchase retail storefronts so it didn’t matter whether they’d make rent, hence the low traffic in the stores.

Not sure where steelman fits into this though.

My nephew is a pro videographer (like what he does for a living) and in family gatherings and whatnot he can somehow get like a thousand photos and many hours of footage from several cameras while still interacting and being part of everything. And I don’t even notice that he’s doing it.
