Bike blerg thread

If it goes the way 650b went; in 10 years you’ll be able to buy a 32" wheelset for $150 delivered and some tires FFS. It’ll still be a hassle to find the right endcaps tho.

not my Surly Ogre but hell yeah send it bud

Here’s the thing… IMHO stacks are too low and seat tube angles are too steep. Mullet your bike and get two birds stoned at once! Those tiny tucked chainstays do make it look like a bit of a wheelie machine though. The bikes I’m considering mullet-ing have 450-460mm chainstays.

Not really interested in another set of wheels but I suspect the 32s would fit in a Pugsley too

I’m not so sure actually since the Pugsley isn’t suspension corrected. It’s only like 450mm a2c whereas 29er suspension correction are at least 483mm.

I think 32" gravel tires would fit based off some napkin math. Of course, when you say “run 32s” are you actually talking about 32" MTB tires?

29" x 3.0 is the max in the front according to Surly, that’s roughly a 387mm radius.

32" x 40mm should work out to around a 383mm radius.

Yeah now that you mention it, I usually run 2.35” tires on my 29” wheelset on my Pugsley. Whenever I put 3.0” tires on it, the clearances got quite a bit tighter if you can believe it. There might be room for 32” wheel and MTB tire in the back because of the horizontal dropouts but the fork might be too close. Though I am remembering now that I have a Moonlander fork so who knows. I am fine with 29” wheels

This one feels like I can jump on it and get after most everything. New Cont 2.4’s roll so well, this thing just covers ground. Hit the park, look around. Go putz around downtown at dawn, or the riverside trail…

I’m a top-10 dangerholm hater but his most recent bike is done well and shows the issue with lack of available branding. It’s not quite there.

Or maybe this is the best balance? He should figure out how to add his preferred jorts brand logo somewhere on there.

He even put on a little pubes-ripoff thing

speaking of thirtytwosies this 2004-ass Redline frame that I have setup as a fixed MTB scorcher thing definitely has room for a 32 x 2.4”. But I do wonder how many 32” wheels we’ll see come on 100mm hub frames.

This one hits close to home. Alvin was a Tarcker at one point.

world’s broken

Thats a shame. I really like Alvin. Ive been on holiday for a week and my work website keeps going down. Why? Bots are scraping it, google and chat gpt mostly. Stealing our IP to use in their tools I imagine.

damn

We can all agree that it was plagiarism when Alvin directly stole James’s words, but is it also plagiarism when one of my former editors tasked with providing public lands coverage following my departure texts me to ask for my contacts in that world? Is it plagiarism when they chase the original content I produce here on this Substack with derivative work that doesn’t acknowledge they read it here first? Is it plagiarism when a young writer, paid a fraction of what I once was, is asked to replicate my reporting on a subject I had to spend years bullying the publication to accept as part of its purview?
