90% of the people who were riding Surlys around 2010 have probably had 2 kids and moved to the suburbs. The Surlys will return when those kids are in college

Every All City I see gets put into the same mental bucket as seeing a Surly.

A+ babby front rack/bag support, love that they just made it fit as one welded assembly. I wonder what the actual dimensions are for mounting holes and platform angle, if it could be fitted to any other forks?

I still ride the cross-check I bought 18 years ago like 95% of the time. Still works, never clean it, only replace bits when they wear out. Must be getting on 50k miles. Of course I’d like a better bike but this one is good!

I feel kinda bad after looking through all the Sea Otter coverage, I don’t want to consume any of it. Bike industry is in a weird spot. I have 0 interest in pursuing 32” wheels and I don’t see myself buying anything but consumables in the near to far-ish future. When I inevitably want to dither with parts the used market is saturated and has met all my needs.

Agreed. As I look at my bikes that are 15, 13, 7, and 5* years old. (2-year old frameset, 5-year old components.)

I can already see the path… 1st gen 32 is for gravel/xc, then 2nd gen is superboost trail/enduro front and rear when they realize they can sell the wheels as being as strong as current 29ers, so at least two ‘upgrade events’ for the whale class.

So, are we really expecting 32 to be much use for rides where you, like, turn a lot?

Seems like the grav grav appeal fits, but I’m not sure how one could make those wheels fun on a trail with features they won’t just roll over.

I can understand the inevitable ‘32 all the things, everything else is obsolete’ fugue state induced to get clicks and sell some bikes, but should we actually take this seriously?

Or perhaps about 10 years of tweaking frame geo will solve it?

I have one boost wheel over 10 bikes. Four TA wheels. QR will always be my favourite.

I watched some snippets from the new TTW movie, Rufus was riding his new 32er on the Rameka track single track and said that he kept fukking up the corners as he stuffed the front wheel into the wrong places due to the extra length.

2 boost bikes.
1 TA wheelset.
4 TA Bikes.
1 QR Bike.
2 with Racks.
2 with suspension.
1 full sqiush.
1 650b.

That’s funny, I feel like one of the coolest things about my Vaya is that I was able to upgrade it from QR to through axle, thanks to replaceable dropouts and a custom fork.

I’ve never found my QR bikes (which is all of my bikes) to be lacking. I guess if I ever buy a proper mountain bike I won’t have a choice but to go TA.

Thats what I like about Mones Hachita. All the options. But I can use my TA wheels with a converter to run as QR when needed.

My dynamo wheel is 12mm x100 so I pretty much have to run it QR anyway. Its not like a bikepacking rig needs to have a performance fork.
