Bike blerg thread

kids love a floppy front wheel

They need to show a video of some kid eating shit badly on it, having some kind of catastrophic structural failure, then pontificating on why it proves they are the smartest boy/girl on the planet and nobody else is as brilliant about iterative design (and may something about how the bike is a weapon or some other nonsense).

it’s a 67 degree head tube angle. seems fine. floppy but requires more steering input so kids won’t make sudden 90 degree turns on accident. just looks a little long?
seems like they just took normal hybrid geometry and make it have a reaallly low standover, which is what kids need. most kids bikes have the bars up way too high.

Fake beard not included.

Honestly, it was served to me in an ad and I was very disappointed to find it was not for adults

i have noticed that, unlike the fixed gear craze of the 2000s, the people who are super into old 26" basket bikes truly think they have tapped into some unknown discipline of cycling.

at least his dumb ass is getting torched in the comments.

It’s not just bikes but people don’t know the history of their [sub]cultures. Combined with context collapse, there’s a whole lot of Christopher Columbus style “discovering” going on.

I feel Gen Z doesn’t listen to the old heads anymore, for better or worse. Everything is sourced from peers and sponsored influencers who became “experts” and “thought leaders” 6 months ago to make a buck. Now the old heads frequently suck/sucked but they provided more context and history than an instagram reel or a tiktok

I’m reading this again and “Gen Z doesn’t listen to the old heads” is such an old grouch thing to say, and I am an old grouch, but I feel like I should clarify that the information environment that these kids are in doesn’t contain many old heads (again, for better or worse)

yeah i don’t think it’s necessarily that gen z doesn’t listen to old heads, just that it seems like there’s a lot less generational cross-pollination on the internet now. all the old heads are posting on obscure forums instead of instagram

all of the social platforms have search and timeline algorithms that completely fuck you over if you’re looking for old obscure stuff. so the old heads are hard to find because they’re (probably) not constantly posting stuff the algorithm likes, and even if you go searching for some obscure stuff, you’re going to have to sift through a bunch of irrelevant results. it ain’t the kids fault.

if dad put together that rockhopper with a bunch of janky old parts for me, I would have been so embarassed.
