To my memory it started having more and more not-really-handmade bikes and big-brand booths for stuff like helmets or whatever while at the same time featuring a dwindling number of what we think of as “hand-made” bikes.
I don’t know all the ins and outs of the idea that “hand made” should or can include “made by asian hands in large numbers as production catalog bikes” and I have no real strong opinions either way, but the fact is most folks don’t go to shows like this to see a Trek or Specialized, no matter if it had zero robots involved or not.
MADE had a Shimano booth, so it’s not like there are zero big names or anything, I don’t have any info on NAHBS nor MADE on if they vet applicants to the show or not.

NAHBS also used to be different cities each year, which I kind of get the idea of but I think in practice was annoying.
Zidell yards was a cool looking space, but it was also overly bright near the few windows and very dim otherwise, the building surfaces themselves were actually grungy i.e. brushing against them would get grime on your clothes, and it is also in a weird area of the south waterfront. no bathrooms and limited power inside either. it’s maybe more suited to a moto or bike show
How does one file a public records request with private individuals/organizations? That’s not how any of this works.

talked to @frank_doktor on IG about doing my own bike show at the near exact middle point between portland and austin, which by my calculations is beautiful la sal, utah, population 348 in 2020. feel free to do your own research and correct me on this location.
