bike parts anonymous AKA: The new WTT thread, also pro tips on the length of time you should spend on the crapper

I now have 2 126 spaced wheels and (after I cut it out) a spare tricolor hub for my Davidson. Feels good man.

Put the RARS TEMS and some other bits on the bay and local listings.

Feels good man.

126 wheels, do not want.

speaking such, i need to throw an alighment gauge and dropout trees on my formerly 126 frame to make sure everything is square after shoving a 130 wheel in there.

in other news, this thread has inspired me to take pictures of lots of my bullshit parts i have that i will never use. lots of used good stuff and lots of stuff that i got a killer deal on thinking i was gonna use the shit out of it but never did. will be updating my thread in the classifieds soon.

someone should send me some 44cm 26 clamp standard bend bars.

I might have something. Let me check, Dougie.

I’ll be selling or maybe parting out my Haro Mary in the next few weeks. If anyone wants a 20", 1x9 29er with Ragley Carnegie bars, Salsa Gordos with Big Apples, and Thomson stem/post, give me a holler.

My bike problem might be getting way worse shortly. Here is the story of that. On the local CL there are a number of bikes flippers (myself included) and some do good work and some don’t do any at all. One guy that was a friend of a flipper friend of mine does a decent job and sells bikes at reasonable prices. We had a few email chats back and forth over the years about some of the bikes he sold. He lost his job a while back and was doing the bike thing full time and turning over large quantities of bikes (over 100 bikes year). Well that flipper with help from my friend got in contact with me. His situation has changed greatly as he is going back to school, got a job, and was kicked out by his girlfriend. He now has to move into a small apartment so there is no way he could keep going at his previous rate. Well the problem is he already has 40+ bikes “finished” and ready to sell. That is where I will be coming in.

I am meeting him at his current temporary home tomorrow before polo to check out the inventory he has there (about 20 bikes), spare parts, and some tools he can’t keep (multiple repairs stands for instance). The general idea is going to be for me to take all of his finished bikes, store, market, and sell them on the local craigslist. I would of course get a cut of what I end up selling the bikes for.

None of the details have been ironed out yet, but a lot of that will probably happen tomorrow during our face to face meeting. I plan to double check and test ride all of the bikes before I sell them since it is me selling them and not him. I mentioned that to him, and he agreed since I am an actual bike mechanic and he knows he is not. All of his had full overhauls so I doubt most will need much more than some adjustments or maybe a parts replacement he didn’t notice.

Please, don’t send me a PM about what do you have in this size or do you have a " ". Almost all of these are going to be low end bike shop road bikes from the 70’s/80’s, with maybe a few hybrids, cruisers, or basic mountain bikes thrown in. I will be selling them on the local CL only since I doubt none of them are worth the trouble or hassle of shipping anywhere.

dude you have a problem in a serious sense. like hoarder status.

Lmk when it’s ok to pm you for parts

When you see it for sale in one of my ads here or click linky in sig.

44mm compacts/classic drops? i have 42mm wing top fsa compacts and 3t rotunda pro bars in exchange

want carnegies, if parting

so i was wondering where everyone stands on holing off on taking the browns to the super bowl for like 10 minutes till you get to work just so you can be getting paid to drop the kids off at the pool?

Used to only do this, no way was I poopin for free. I called it “logging out.” New work’s bathroom gets too much traffic for it to be an enjoyable experience anymore.

Yeah, depends on the crapper situation at work. If it’s quiet and nice and private then fuck yeah, on the clock.

seriously.

also, there seem to be some full time bike flippers on cl here, they all seem bat shit crazy just from reading their posts, and their angry replies when someone flags down one of their posts or calls them out.

I meet with him on Sunday. I don’t know what is going to happen just yet on the complete bikes. He really wants someone to just pay him a big chunk of cash and take all of the bikes at once. I can’t do that (he knew that) because I am unemployed, and before that was horrible bike shop wages. He is going to contact a local used bike shop to see if they can buy everything at once. The trip wasn’t a waste as I am buying all of his parts, 30+ wheels, tires, bar tape, and two repair stands on Wednesday. The majority of the parts are lower end nothing special that I will use in rehabbing flippers. There are some parts that will make it to my for sale posts though in time. I am pretty sure I have both repair stands sold already to some of the local polo players.

I am a flipper and have been for a number of years. That actually lead to a job at a bike shop as a mechanic and I was there for 2.5 years before I stopped showing up because I wasn’t being paid (still owed money 3 months later now). I also have dealt with a few other flippers, and the majority of them are absolute crooks and complete idiots. A good flipper will actually fix a bike and sell it for a reasonable price. Most flippers around here either don’t do anything at all and ask outrageous prices or do a good job of polishing up their turd, but have no real bike mechanically skills and still ask outrageous prices (i.e. $250+ for a Varsity). I often tend to be one of those “CL police” people by calling out the person trying to get $200 for a road bike with a severely bent fork and frame damage.

The bike flipping has been good for me overall. All of the bikes and bike tools I own were paid completely by flipping. The first year I worked at the bike shop my net pay was just slightly above my bike flipping profit for that year.

Dude, if you’re doing the selling and the storing, you get the money. If you’re gonna do it, buy the lot for like $400 and don’t deal with figuring out your “cut” later. If not, this seems like a good offer to walk away from. He’s clearly the one who blew it and needs a bailout, so he gets what he gets.

Also sent kaido’s seat and blicks’ lens.
