Box rims and low flange hubs.

Beat.

I just looked around and found like three different weights listed for those.
Including one over a thousand grams for just one rim.
Tell me they’re not that heavy.
i’m finding some conflicting numbers, but seems like most are claiming ~480g, which isn’t bad. considering how beefy and IMO how pretty the polished look is, these are a great value.

But it’s not so much the the profile I’m worried about, it’s being an actual box shape rim.

Huh?

Also, right on time, Prolly’s sick of Vs too!:

Lol at anti-trendy trendiness.
Four years my ass. All you have to do is look at his posting history on bike forums to see that he’s been riding fixed for like two years. What a douche.

Haha, I did not even know people were so into Prolly.

Yeah, I’ve been consistently surprised to see people here refer to Prolly as though he is some kind of trend setter.

My contribution to this thread is my advocacy of Mavic Open Pro CDs (which I know aren’t truly box section rims. For some reason, I’ve never really dug on shiny rims, so I prefer the anodized look (though not anodized ugly-ass colors or painted). Here are my vintage DA/Open CDs, which I traded when I needed track tubulars.

Here they are on my bike:

Right. Cuz if you’re not posting about it, you’re not really riding fixed. :colbert:

Or: what’s the hardest part of learning to ride a fixed gear? Thinking up snappy comebacks on the internet.

I don’t really mean to defend him, just thought it was funny.

Are you not familiar with this guy they’re talking about? I doubt he’d get out of bed in the morning if he wasn’t gonna get internet-hipster-cred for it.

Except that Prolly started posting as he was starting to ride fixed. Long time SSFG readers will remember his orange IRO and then his long battle with dutret over that undersized vintage track bike he eventually sold. As far as Fixed Gear Freestyle goes, I don’t think he even “practiced” the sport until the MASH New York premier.

Remember, this is a person without a filter, who posts every fucking detail of his life on the internet, except for the ones that he’s going to keep a secret in order to reveal later.

i love all the silly endorsements by ‘serious cyclists’ he gets for his product, only to cite himself and his friend who happens to be a messr for testimonials (i’m thinking of that jacket, which actually looks pretty nice). cause trickin’ around NYC is SO demanding. i’m still kinda mad i didn’t see him while i was visiting, though.

It makes me really fucking angry that I know who John goddamn Prolly is. Fuck.

I’m sort of vaguely familiar with him, in the sense that he blogs, and everyone on here hates him.

I missed the part where he made an ass out of himself on SSFG. But the amount of hate he gets is kind of funny. He’s just some self-important New York douchebag in Dunks and a stupid hat. I’ve read some of his posts on there more recently and they were all pretty positive, which I respect, not really sinking down into bullshit fighting, just a kind of ‘to each their own’ attitude. As far as internet personalities go, I find WMD inifinitely more offensive.

That anyone would ride a kind of rim because it’s not played out, or not ride one because it is = funny. That one day Vs are bombproof, and the next they may not be the best thing for street riding = funny. That a box rim has to be under 18mm or whatever the cutoff is, to be a “true” box rim, and that that’s somehow desirable all of a sudden = funny. The whole idea of trendy rims is ridiculous. My priorities are still light, strong, cheap.

His reaction was pretty epic after bfssfg made fun of his marinoni’s “racing mode”.

^ that it was.

i don’t really hate the guy, he’s just an easy target and it’s the internet.

Whats not to like?

the only thing that really bugs me about him is when he posts shit that he’s broken (frames, crankarms, whatever) like he’s some sort of badass for breaking it when he was doing 180’s.

He should lose some weight.
