Cannondale Says FUCK USA
So in this sense we can actually say that a forged formula track hub is actually stronger than a billet machined phil wood. but i’d get shot for that. so nevermind.
It just seems to make more sense to forge a basic shape and cncing it down to fine details. You get best of both worlds.

btw aluminium price took a huge nosedive a few months ago after the insane prices just a year ago. Many people that kept stock of aluminium are suffering huge losses.

What industry are you in halbritt?
We could say that a forged Formula track hub is stronger than a machined Phil Wood, but then we would be speculating wildly. The design of the part, the specific alloy used, and any heat treatment will also affect strength. I’m guessing that Phil Wood hubs are strong enough.

It is with much glee that I’ve been watching the price of metals dive recently. As for what industry I’m in, it’s nothing related to manufacturing or engineering. I just do this shit for fun.

HEY LETS ALL SIGN A PETITION CUZ THEN THEY’LL LISTEN TO US AND KEEP MAKING THEM IN U.S.A. AND IT’LL WORK

Actually it might. I met with my Cannondale rep and what he was told when he asked about the chance of keeping some production stateside is that it could be possible if Dorel gets enough feedback from dealers and more importantly CUSTOMERS voicing their concern and dismay at this decision. We agreed that the moving of all carbon production is 100% needed if they want to remain competitive. The idea of keeping a few aluminum models stateside as some sort of heritage collection is one that is being suggested by more than a few cannondale dealers. The factory will still be humming through 2010 so there is time for people to change their minds. Dorel is banking that cannondale customers don’t really care if some of the bikes are made in the U.S. or not. They have to hear feedback otherwise and the dealers have to respond by giving more floor space to the U.S. made bikes if they are also stocking other brands. I consider my shop a CANNONDALE shop when it comes to road bikes so it’s not the guys like me that have to stock more. The shops that are stocking more Trek, Specialized, or whatever need to put their money where their mouth is and put more caad9s on the floor.

So yeah… I’m going to do what I can to start some grassroots level thing in my region with my fellow dealers to get feedback from the CUSTOMER back to the people who make the decisions.

Oh and people sweat Thomson because they are lighter that most and don’t break.

I had a BIG guy crash hard and bend a layback post once. When I called Thomson to deal with it they basically said “look we are going to replace it because we love our customers but it’s obvious something funny happened. We have NEVER had a layback post simply fail. NEVER.”

On top of that a Masterpiece post is lighter/cheaper than most quality carbon posts and will neither strip nor crack from over torquing.

And as far as complaints about their stems go this is the first I have heard about it in my neck of the woods. We sell more Thomson stems than any other high end stem and have NEVER had one come back. Stripped bolts on all but the crappiest stems are ALWAYS user error. End of story. If you ever read the forums over at fixedgearfever.com many BIG and HEAVY sprinters speak highly of Thomson stems. If legit elite level track riders back a stem it’s good enough to ride around the campus.

I’m wondering if you’ve considered meds to even out your mood swings?

So Cannondale has decided to keep some domestic production, with 55 or so remaining employees producing new CAAD9 road and CX bikes, along with a new aluminum hardtail which has a frame weight of like 1500g or something crazy.

Also, I filled out my form today for the new Cannondale CAAD9 Cyclocross 2. I don’t think the specs or pictures are on the internet yet, but it’s full Ultegra 6700 except for the FSA K-Force BB30 CX crank (46/36) and Tektro Euro-X magnesium cantilevers. The top end CX bike is nuts - full SRAM Red and Maviuc Ksyrium tubulars, but wayyyyyyy too expensive.

As of now my plan is to sell the Ultegra and upgrade to Rival, but I may end up liking it, especially now that the cables are under wraps.

fuuuuck, that sounds hot

it seems like everyone is buying CAAD9s and selling the shimano to switch to rival.

I actually have three frames that we are building into Rival bikes this week… it really is the best affordable racer out there.

Which is why that all-black Rival-equipped CAAD9 with the BB30 is going to be the best selling bike next year. I’m half-tempted to sell my CAAD8 BB30 and upgrade for no particular reason.

yesterday the cannondale rep came to meet me to confirm sponsorship for my team

I’d buy that in a heartbeat. That is a kick ass racing rig. What is the MSRP?

barba=BB30 fan boy.

I think $1700-ish. There’s also going to be a DA 7900 CAAD9 for $2600, I believe.
