What I was saying is that they look incredibly uncomfortable. They are kinda fugly though. I suppose if they work for you, they work. No need to fix a problem that doesn’t exist.
Nah, I’m fine with them. They’re sturdy, comfortable, and ugly. Just like their owner.
I think I have the same bars, Salsa Bell Lap (or Moto Bell Lap or whatever the fuck they’re called). Mine appear to be setup almost exactly like CKD’s and FWIW I find them quite comfortable, on the hoods, in the drops, whatever. I actually slightly prefer the ergo bend over traditional curved bars, but not by a huge amount. That said: fuggly is a YES.
Tarck really does have an undying love of the Cross Check, don’t we?
I actually have the Short and Shallows; They have the same bend, reach, and drop as the Bell Laps, only without the flare. I bought them on a whim because I had a store credit, and I’ve enjoyed them quite a bit. I did have the Bell Laps beforehand, and they’re pretty good too.
I’m surprised no travelleur’s cheque owners in the bunch
I’d love one, but they’re so much more expensive than they really should be. I haven’t even seen one in real life.
I have been riding mine exclusively for the last month and falling in love with it all over again. Steel frame and 37’s make it the perfect commuter, especially as CalTrans has been ripping the almighty fuck out of the streets here lately. The roads are worse than Baghdad, I swear. Giant fucking potholes, those huge steel plates and badly patched tarmac, the CC just rolls over the lot.
yea I think the Crosscheck is our most tarck owned bike. That or the Kilo TT.
^^I would do a bike with S&S couplers, but only if it was a fixed gear that was either brakeless or front brake only. Otherwise seems like way too much hassle to setup/takedown, but who knows.
you just undo the couplers and fold it over. don’t worry about the cables.
someone had a singlespeed one at the cross race this weekend
I’ve very, very strongly considered getting a Traveler’s Check, and QBP has my size on closeout, but even discounted, it is still ~$600, and I definitely do not travel enough to justify that expense. I feel like I’d rather track down a cool steel roadie and have couplers added to that, rather than add still more weight to a boat anchor like the Cross Check.
Ritchey makes quick-disconnect brake and shift cables for their Break-Away, that will work with a Surly Traveler’s Check. I can’t find any photos of them, but if you look at a Ritchey Break-Away up close, it’s pretty obvious how it works.
I have a set too and I’m having a real hard time setting them up with the STis without angling them weirdly.

lmfao
Anita wanted to race cross? lol
Also, I miss bonechilling
Anita was banned? Whatever happened to her ex/boyfriend dude? And Gerund? Ya know, this forum is fucking hard to keep track of because of changing names and avatars.
