Reply 1: the racers make the race.
Reply 2: yeah, if I see a video and think I’d love to ride that course, it must be kinda easy.
Reply 3: advantage Iowa.

I guess it says something about me that my favorite GACX course was Elks Backwoods because it was the only one with real technical sections. And really only the first year I did it because that was the last time it went WAY out in the woods.

I’d agree with you if it was a toad race they were supposed to be making.

So are the Seattle area races more up to your standards for technical features?
I too tried them back to back but in the reverse order. I felt the PNW races were more consistently interesting. But of course the plainer courses over time might also have been part of the increasing demand for the sport.

I knew I’d get that reaction from you. :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s a mix up here, but it is a little more fun. Several courses that folks in GA would complain about being too “mountain bikey”.

I hope you were able to stay awake for the races today then

HY so cool to get to be on a course building team again, if only in a small role.

“YOU ARE ASSUMING INHERENT RISKS OF PARTICIPATING IN THIS DOMESTICATED ANIMAL ACTIVITY.”

Sounds about right.

was your job to put the sign up?

I wish. That’s there for general fairgrounds use.

If I make any more Hawk of Flanders shirts, I might have to put that law quote on the back.

I did stay awake, but maybe that’s because I couldn’t watch them.

U NO FUN

Cracked the rear crabon tub rim last night at practice. Ugh. It was getting dark and that lip of the sidewalk came out of nowhere. Still ridable and from what I’ve researched, repairable. Gonna se how it goes this weekend and contact MMFG. I spend 4 days gluing that thing.

Whoever is doing the UCI highlights is just shit. I’m getting the impression that they’re just given the names of the podium riders and they don’t know who anyone else is.

Cross happened. Set the right side of all the stakes Friday night, followed by completing the left side yesterday morning at 6am. We barely had the course open by 830 for pre-ride. Had some newer people helping with course tape and they messed some stuff up, but not that bad.
Beginner fields were pretty small, which was sad. Elite and ss had the biggest fields of the day. Idk what we have to do to get more people out to race.
I got 6th in elite after sitting in 2nd until I got a front flat 1.5 laps in and finished on my ss. 3rd in ss. Didn’t have the energy to ride the steep off-camber climb in the ss race, which I could earlier in the elite race. Probably something to do with the doughnut I ate at 7am being the only food I ate all day.
Finished teardown by 5pm. My legs are blown and my back is dead.

Props for doing the work of the Lawd.

SS being one of the biggest fields is an ominous sign.

Soon only jocks and weirdos (and weirdo jocks) will remain…

Eveyone and their mother has a gravel bike now. I get that every weekend will not work for eveyone. I know some people are just over racing. I feel like people have a negative connotation when it comes to racing, brought to you by road racing, where once you are spit out the back, you’re essentially done and “not good enough.” Need to figure out how to bring the message forth that cyclocross is for the people, it’s only as hard as you make it, and no matter what, you’re gonna have fun and and there’s gonna be someone there to cheer you on.
