im gonna ramble about this build because the whole process is really a peak me.

frame - vulture from ebay. i put in an offensively low offer that got accepted. i picked wade from vulture’s brain about it, its from a dirt rag raffle, is sort of single speed specific with the ebb and no guides for a derder, but did come with a hanger. i thought about painting over the flames for all of 10 seconds, shame on me. they deserve to shine.

fork - stridsland beachcomber fork. 400 a-c, 15x100 axle. my intentions were to use a sweet hunter fork that ive been sitting on, but it was 470 a-c. i sort of knew it was always gonna be too long, even bought a 650b non-boost wheel from someone here to drop the front end down and hopefully use the long fork. no dice, too long, front end felt stupid. stridsland fork + 650b wheel puts the front end in a better place and the bike doesnt feel as terrible now.

headset - chris king rasta, damn near new condition that a friend sold me for $50. i told him that $50 is not the asking price for chris king headsets in 2025, certainly not a rasta, but he didnt care.

cranks - japanese white industries cranks with a stridsland 36t ring and stridsland bolts i think.

wheelset - xt hub CL rear laced to mavic 317, 26” minion, 650b dt350 hub laced to wtb rim with high roller. rear skewer is some exotic titanium one that barely works with the rear dropouts and will probably need to be replaced.

seatpost - 27.2x320 thats nowhere near long enough. 400mm on the way. this bike may not fit me, but im pushing through that.

seatpost clamp - paul QR from the 2019 pubesmobile. i somehow broke the QR mech but then figured out how to turn it into world’s bulkiest bolt-on clamp. custom ano by folks at i9 back then.

saddle - old flite. how cool, wonder why he has that old flite. maybe he messed in the 90s? maybe cat2 racer early 2000s? maybe he’s addicted to ebay? there’s no way of knowing.

brakes - paul klampers. these were sent to me by paul, after i used my blue paul minimoto set on the first Project ShitBike. the klampers were on the slingshot that @JUGE_FREDD gave me until i got ants in my pants and sold that. on the stolen Why for a hot second before I sold that, then in the bin with them until now. Levers are also Paul, theyre the special edition crazy color ones and I hate them, but they were a gift so I will continue to use them. thank you paul i swear i only hate a small portion of your products.

drivetrain - new claris 8-speed casette, new 8-speed chain, 7spd deore thumb shifter and what i believe is a 6-speed derder. maybe this is all supposed to be fine, i dont know, i gave it to a friend and said “put a drivetrain on this” and this is what i got.

stem - 22.2 boxcar thanks paul i like this.

bars - doom, 2” rise, 25 degree bend, steel, no longer on the bike because a friend wanted to try them, and by try them he installed them and said “oh no these wont do” so extra glad i was able to help out with that one JOHN. other dooms on the way, my MF PUBES signature bars in titanium. i bought two pair, one for me, one for the friend that drivetrained this bike. he owes me $80 more and instead of that i get a 2002 Klein Attitude comp for trades. Cant stop wont stop.

in the end, i built a bike that would have really excited me in 2005 and maybe thats all that matters.

for sale.

Yeah need pics and details!

Have you ever really wanted any of your bikes though?

oh sure, i still want my Mone and have had it for over two years now.

and i regret selling a lot of my bikes, especially in the time of my mental health crisis a few years back. really i should have just kept everything and calmed my nips, but my life was crumbling and i needed money for therapists.

i miss the Bearclaw I sold to @plop for sure. Hope to own another one of those some day.

I’m a complicated fella with severe ADHD who wants the perfect bike and has no idea what thats supposed to look like. So I end up with Klein Attitudes and handmade Guy Fieri single speed frames even though I hate single speed now.

I was just looking for that front wheel this weekend and remembered I sold it to you.

Pubes, as a complicated and chaotic adhd fella myself, I highly recommend taking up pottery. It’s done more for my mental health and general wellbeing than anything else I’ve ever tried.

i will continue to consider this but im still a little scarred from my first pinch pot i tried to make senior year of high school, when it was all done i told my teacher “i think this might not be for me” and she didnt disagree. so i put that shit pinch pot on my mom’s mantle and wrote “pears, age 17” in little kids handwriting on the side, in attempts to use humor soften the blow of my newly found lack of skill.

anways, new bike day continues:

appears to be stock, save for the silly bars my friend put on them. p sure its a waterloo klein so not as coveted but with waterloo comes things like a standard 9/8 headtube and a threaded bottom bracket which is nice. how fucking stupid does that headtube look tho, jesus christ.

but its a big, bulbous klein that ive wanted for a while, but might also immediately sell.

also, as with all kleins, it came pre-dented. a really nice feature that you dont see many other bike companies doing.

Once upon a time there was a shop called Velo cult and the owner, a bike collector and mechanic, talked about turning wrenches for a cycling team. He said he (or his mentor?) was finishing up a build of a team bike and the last step he took a wrench and smacked a dent into the bottom of the DT and said
“It’s a tool, not a trophy”
And handed it over to the rider

Not sure if true story but was told to me by the guy

hmmm sounds like someone fucked up once and instead of owning up to it went for the ol’ doubledown and decided for that to become his thing.

maybe my shitty brake setup skills are now just “here you go, i made the brakes suck because you supposed to be going fast. you’re welcome, i’m quirky.”

 Klein paint jobs though

That HT needs some sort of beer sticker or label, looks like a dang old aluminum can.

Riv does this as well. Three of the four Rivs I’ve bought brand new came dented or with chipped paint in ways that looked like it could only have happened during mfg / assembly.
