How essential is owning a computer to getting the most out of a Karoo?
you’ll want/need a computer to set it up and sign it in to whatever 3rd party services you want to integrate with (strava/rwgps/etc), but after that most things are just on-device.

I’m guessing there’s a Karoo3 coming and thus the clearance, FWIW.
If/when K3 drops I"ll have a K2 to offload in the marketplace.

lol i just put up a review about the karoo 2. the karoo 2 is probably the most independent of the gps computers for better or worse. i quite like the computer. i wish it had the smartphone app integration that wahoo or garmin has for on-the-fly mapping but at that price it is a no-brainer choice
