DEALS DEALS DEALS

Someone decided that 24 is too few spokes for a modern MTB wheel and 32 is too many.

I think you’re playing dumb if you don’t get it but ok. I’m 190 lbs and every couple of months end a ride with a few spokes on my 32 spoke wheels completely loose. These are allegedly mtb wheels and should be 32 spoke.

This raceface Dt Swiss 30mm internal wheelset I recently got is 28h too and I assume that contributes to those wheels having been on deep clearance and these enve wheels as well. Though again I think with carbon rims it is probably a non issue. I’ll see how my 28h wheelset holds up. I rejiggered my bike fleet in order to put it on a bike with only 120mm travel.

Yeah I think 28 is fine for carbon.

If I’m building ‘em I usually opt for 32 because more cheaper hub choices. (dynamo and such as)

Oh I’m totally a fatty now and had to build a 32 spoke set of wheels because I warped the 28 but I didnt understand

Like it’s either 24 or 32, no in between

All the dang sale ones are 28!

Deal with it.gif

talk to me about my 24/28h ebike

small wheels? big hub?

light weight, i guess. I wish I had bought more spokes when I replaced the wheels.

I think I rode one of those in Japan. It was pretty awesome. Def light!

Wheelbuilding quality matters more than a 4-spoke difference ATMO

sure but why start at a disadvantage

because of the deals deals deals.

It’s only a disadvantage if your wheelbuilder can’t tension the wheel evenly enough to prevent critical tension deltas under load, and straight true carbon rims make that task significantly easier, like you said.

But why do 28h wheels with a 30mm rim id exist at all. It’s just a use case mismatch for like half of the folks buying them (thinking about weight).

I’m not an MTBer but it seems there is a trend towards wider rims in XC, particularly 30mm ID. More sidewall support, slight aero benefit, etc.

I want road wheels with 30mm internal
