Did you just ShartQ?

Yeah I’d much rather carry around my 6100 than my u-lock. It’s even better if you go all nerdy and buy the matching lock bracket for it.

I use one of these as daily and its great for low security or short stops where most of the locked up bikes are using dollar store cable locks.

See above photos.
All my bikes that see use have a frame mounted bordo.

what is this thread about? lol

This is my daily, I have a mini messenger kyrptonite but haven’t carried it on me in years. Like Rudy said all locks are a deterrent, and a u lock looks the part.

When using wide rims on an old rim brake bike, are there special super thin spherical washers or do I need to spend too much time with sand paper?

@Rusty_Piton I’m 100% in agreement that locks are mostly security theater that at the most only prevent someone walking away with your bike.

Seems like most folks are using u-locks. Keyed vs combo is the thing I’m trying to think through now. Kind of depends on the key type, if it’s a plain flat key that I wouldn’t notice on my keychain I think that would be my preference. It seems that RockyMounts uses keys like that as opposed to more premium brands that use bulkier barrel keys.

Would Kool-Stop Thinline pads help?

They come with a thick and a thin washer that can be swapped based on rim width.

Those things are too flexy, I don’t like them. I gotta have cartridge pad holders. Maybe a lower profile mtb pad holder would be another option? I’ve got basic tektro jawns.

All pads of this style I’ve seen come with a thick and a thin set of spherical washers and the thin bois ain’t thin enough for these wide rims. I’ve been through my parts bin and they’re all pretty much the same. Looks like they could be a few mm thinner each, but I’ve never seen anything like that I can remember.

I going to spend an hour with some sand paper to see if I can get 1-1.5mm out of each pair.

Edit: 10 minutes with sand paper and I give up. I’ll just ride and wear the pads in.

If you’re carrying around bike keys on your regular keys you’re doing it wrong. Key gets stored with the lock. Super fast to deploy, key doesn’t get lost, doesn’t bulk up your regular keys.

You can thank my wife for that one. She was a courier in Chicago in the early aughts and she taught it to me.

Yep learned from the messbros of the early aughts

all downside and no upside

if it is not just a cosmetic problem, almost the entirety of the impact will be limited to the usecase of being able to remove the bolt, which you have no need to do other than cosmetics

The FSA one isn’t bad and their ACR/SMR stems are well designed. The SMR stem is cool because it can be run with fully internal routing or a hybrid design for di2 bikes that have semi-hidden hoses.
