Did you just ShartQ?

Thanks y’all. Apparently that Capore Sano is the place.

Weird question for the platform mtb pedalers, does shoe rubber dry out? I have a pair of 5.10 Freerider Pros that I’ve had for a few years, and I swear they do not want to stick to my pedals any more. This is the first time I’ve not just worn a pair of shoes out and kept them for strictly mtb duty.

I popped off twice and burgered the same calf on my last ride. This could likely also be because it was my first mtb ride in 2 months and skills are lacking atm.

shoe rubber definitely dries out, especially soft, sticky rubber like climbing soles which is similar to mtb soles. if I recall it’s something to do with the plasticizers at the surface off-gassing and not being mechanically replaced from within due to flexing, and UV/oxygen exposure

if they’re not too far gone you may be able to sand or file the glazed surface off and expose fresh rubber

How about your pedal pins? And yeah… remembering to keep those heels down.

The left crankarm fell off my burro recently and despite my efforts to tighten it back onto the bicycle, it is still very floppy. It is a 73mm shell with Truvativ Stylo GXP GIGAPIPE cranks - do I just replace it? V confused over here

That was a common failure of Octalink, too. It probably has been working loose and is now rounded out.

Thanks, I’ll just look into a replacement

I saw this store name and I was like they’re just making up words now

Shartq: what benefits are you getting from your wahoo/garmin/ stem GPS?

I have routing through an old android running Brouter in OSM+ - I refuse to believe anything else could route so well.

Are you mostly using it to track analytics on power, distance, speed etc?

I have a Karoo2 and it doesn’t do much that my phone couldn’t do. But the battery lasts much longer on the Karoo2 and I can hear the audio cues a lot easier (maybe because my phone is in a case). And I like that I can control the GPS with it’s side buttons when the touchscreen won’t work because it’s raining. It also seems like the Karoo2 is more durable than a phone but I haven’t had a chance to test that out.

I mostly use it for routing but it’s interesting to see how many miles I’ve ridden (and how many each bike gets).

Navigation and Strava. The main benefit is that its much smaller than a phone. An old phone would probably navigate better, but I don’t want that on my stem.

Battery life, weather tolerance, can talk to my ANT bits (hrm, power meter)

it’s all stuff you can make work on a phone, but it’s all better integrated/packaged in a garmin/wahoo/karoo

Very much this. Its also nice not having a giant screen mounted to the stem/bars, though the Hammerhead is fast approaching that size

I heard a rumor that karoo3 would come in small/large sizes, hoping that’s the case

If you’re using it for nav, I don’t see why a small size phone screen would be bad. Weird cycling fashion niche to be a slave to if you’re out in the woods trying to find your way on a long ride.

The real answer is it takes effort to get an older droid of your choosing, epoxy a mount to it, and load it with apps of your choice. What I did when I tried this is go to gsm arena and filtered for the exact form factor and features I wanted using their phone finder: Phone Finder - search for a phone by feature - GSMArena.com

Its a purely aesthetic thing. And, tbh, a giant screen isn’t really necessary for bike navigating. The turns tend to be simple and with plenty of time to prep for them.
