I use a drip wax lube and a Pedro’s chain pig chain cleaner - what do I put in it to clean the chain
What’s the current tarck-approved tubeless rim tape?
I’ve got a 19mm inner rim I need to tape up but only have some wider (24mm?) 3M strapping tape that seems easier to save for the MTB wheels rather than cut down
Tesa strapping tape is fine and is what Velocity sells as theirs. Double ply for low pressure. Triple for road tubeless.
Or just order Stans/WTB to make is easy.
Never ever MucOff

Stans is the blue tape and WTB is the ivory tape. It’s the same stuff, just different colors.
Tesa 4288 is my favorite. It’s harder to find in single roll quantities so I get it off ebay. I just searched “Tesa tubeless tape” and it came up. There’s nothing explicitly labeled 4288, which is the black stuff. They also have 4289 which works as well and is yellow. My recollection is that the properties are nearly identical.
I recall that certain mavic wheels used to have an internal plastic bit in the hub fail over time. Does anyone know what part that might be? My buddy thinks he has the problem on his Crossmax 26er wheelset.
ime it was a swelling plastic bushing in the freehub. The issue is most pronounced when coasting over rough terrain and cease upon pedaling.
I wonder if this is it? Wow, I remember Rogue Mechanic !
I accidentally’d some of this in an emergency once. Awful awful.
I just get whatever ebay wants to sell me that resembles the tesa 4288.
I have muc off tape and valves on a bike and it seems fine.
It’s not the seal it’s a bushing. I removed that seal from my own wheels and the noise remained (and got worse over time)
same here, just tape though
oh i had those. Is it wailing like a banshee while coasting? The “Mavic Deathsqueal”? my friends nicknamed that bike “The Thunderscreech”
This was the issue I had with a set of Crossmax SL 26" wheels from circa 2005-2007, and it was solved by replacing the bushing:
But the exploded view you have posted is for a 2013-onward wheel with the completely different ITS4 freehub design, that doesn’t rely on a bushing, and doesn’t have the deathsqueal issues AFAIK. Pull the freehub body and make sure you know what generation of wheel you have before you buy parts.
Mavic FTS freehub body, with a plastic bushing at the hub side and deathsqueal, prior to 2013ish:
Mavic ITS4 freehub body, with bearings at both ends and no deathsqueal, post-2013ish:
Thanks for that @adem !
ooh, sup had this on his mavic wheels. he kept thinking his tire somehow started rubbing but nothing had moved. he figured it out via google and replaced that bushing and fixed it.
does anyone have the link to that article about tubeless issues where it’s always the tape? because that’s the only place things can generally leak from
The other day I did have a mysterious leak on a brand new setup that was the interface between the rubber foot of the valve and the aluminum base of the stem itself. Super weird.
But yeah… it’s always the tape.
I broke my $3 eBay special chain tool yesterday. Give me a chain tool I should buy that isn’t Abbey cause I ain’t got that Abbey monies.
I have the park tool ct-5, maybe silly as my only chain tool, but works just fine.
I’ve always liked the Pedro’s ones with the selectable options for different speed chains.
