Did you just ShartQ?

I got a campy 11 speed chain tool from pro bike kit on deep clearance like 10 years ago. Still does the thing!

I have an old Pedro’s that I’ve had for ages. It was the first real, good bike tool I ever bought and I can’t imagine that it won’t last the rest of my life. Still has two spare pins stored in the handle.

Thanks for $25 to my door can’t beat it. Consumed.

CT-5 is good, no doubt. I have one on every single bike, just wouldn’t want to use one at home. Although, it was fun watching @igor use one in a number of the VO build videos.

I can’t wait to try this out in another 3 years when I’ve biked enough to warrant replacing a chain again

I just had fun busting a rusty chain on a donated kids bike. This would could have made life easier’

You could put a nutfucker or pliers on the handle as well, or a screwdriver, butter knife, stick etc hrough the handle hole.

I use my crank bros multi tool for all the chains from 9 to 12. But thats only a one time use cos power links I reckon. Edit it does hurt your hand its true. Tiny area for leverage.

ok i have a good shartq i think. i have two mountain bikes.

  1. a norco optic full suspension bike that i absolutely love, but is kind of overkill for a lot of the trails here especially when i ride with my son who is a little slower than me.
  2. a giant singlespeed XC bike that i also absolutely love. it’s perfect for riding with son because i get a better workout and have to think more instead of just sitting and spinning. it’s super light…sub 20 pounds.

HOWEVER

the singlespeed does not have a dropper. do i pay the weight penalty and put a dropper in? then i can have more fun on the downhills where my son is quite fast. do i keep the long ass carbon post and force myself to have better technique and save the weight?
it’s not like the weight matters if i’m just riding around with my son but there’s something cool about how light this bike is.

just put a dropper on it

While you are waiting for your son at the top of the hill you can manually drop your standard post. The rest of the time you are in the wrong gear so are probably standing up anyway.

you could also try lowering the carbon post by 1" and see if that makes up for the descents. Sometimes that little bit is all I need, and that could stand for you too.

Riding without a dropper will make you learn better technique for riding without a dropper. It’ll be worse technique for normal riding.

this is so true

i will acquire a dropper. what’s the best 27.2 dropper right now?

Do you need an internal or external routed post?

BITD the gravity ones were the lightest, but I don’t imagine the action is that smooth, I understood they could give you a pretty bad whack in the gooch.
