blinding LED with a sharp cutoff at 3’ somehow and corresponding projection on the ground
There already is/was a light that projected lines on the ground to show where 3 feet would be. I don’t think the lines were bright enough to be very useful.
not to mention that no one in a car would give a shit even if it were bright enough
Yeah, that’s like expecting drivers to respect painted bike lanes. They simply can’t be arsed.
My edelux light seems to trigger my friends when I ride behind him
Speaking of lights, I used the proceeds of my fatbike sale to fund this:
German lights have an ‘StVZO’ designation that means the beam cuts off cleanly at the top, and has no glare spill-over.
It’s about the same lumens as my previous light, but instead of being a huge blurry circle, it’s a rectangle, with the top edge being extremely bright, and a very clean edge in comparison.
I’ll probably write it up more somewhere, but I think it’s a really promising roadie/city light.
I finally got a smart trainer. Saris H3 Plus. I’m setting it up. What am I supposed to do with this thing? Just get Zwift? How do I ride and just watch TV?
I thought this would have instructions but I got nothing.
I have been wanting to try mywhoosh because free
I got mywhoosh. Will report back.
I can’t decide whether mywhoosh is ethical cuz on one hand it’s Saudi but on the other hand it’s free so aren’t we just burning all their VC dollars?
I used Zwift for about 9 months, then ditched it for Mywhoosh when they jacked the prices. I only use it for workouts and free riding (no racing) and the two platforms are functionally essentially the same shartmo, only real difference being that Zwift has a lot more users so there’s a social element to group rides. I use a burner phone cos I dgaf about graphics and I didn’t want to put however many gb of spyware onto my wife’s ipad.
In short, it’s fine. And Zwift is fine. The other platforms are probably fine too.
I like Wahoo’s SYSTM (Sufferfest) for the light degradation the workouts give during intervals. Zwift was too open ended for me to care.
TrainerDay is super cheap, it’s what I would use if I were using the trainer these days. I always preferred to just watch tv or something as opposed to Zwift or whatever.
What happened to just doing 2x20s?
Demo a few different apps and see what your brain likes best.
Different options depending on what you want. There’s plenty of options that are less training focused and just giving you something to look at while you ride. Riding a simulated route is better than just sitting and pedaling with no route as it makes it more like outside, i.e. you have to try a bit to get up hills.
If you want “real” ride simulation with actual locations and video, I think Fulgaz and Rouvy are the ones to go with.
If you want it more gamified with points and badges and options for competition, group rides, etc, Zwift is best. With zwift, you still need a plan. Just free riding will get boring. Pick a route to complete or sign up for group rides or group workouts.
Never used Mywoosh so i dunno how that one slots in.
rawdoggin
A while back, I ported all my paper workouts to my head unit to cut down on the amount of hypoxic math I needed to do. The smart trainer worked well enough with the power setpoints. I just got tired of the flutter in the resistance, since the one I was using was at the tire.
I’m just back to using my gears to adjust resistance.
I quit riding trainers before smart trainers were a thing, so gears were my only way of increasing resistance (or a towel under the rollers, my favorite), but those workouts were always riding to power for extended periods with sets of 2x20s sprinkled in. My problem in racing was never fitness, but being poor at racecraft (sitting out in the wind too much and being afraid of cornering/descending in the pack).
I despise indoor trainers so much that since its been a thing I think ive used zwift and mywoosh once. I can always find something better to do. Admittedly I am using it plugged into a powertap hub with old school trainer, not smart. Lucky the weather is not super cold.
