Did you just ShartQ?

Is a big 1x rear derailer with a yuge ratio cage a bad idea for a QR axle derailer hanger?

Nah I would swap cranksets.

It wasn’t until transmission derailleurs were sold

It wasn’t until transmission that derailers were as big as cranksets

I’m tired of needing to order a new roll of tubeless tape for every wheel I work on.

I don’t want a drawer full of huge rolls of different tapes. I’ve been trimming on the spool but that produces a lot of waste for the few rounds of tape that are only partially cut or if I cut way too much.

I’d really like to just get one big fat spool of this 3m stuff I like and find a tape reel with an adjustable blade that would trim the tape to width as I dispense it.

Does such a thing exist that I can just buy? I love making tools and I need a ready made solution right now.

I feel if you are gonna go ratio then the starting point is to already have a 1x sram dangler. I run mine 11 speed, no problems, altho its sold as a 12 speed upgrade, and I don’t see why it wouldnt run 10 speed to be honest with a wide range 10 speed cassette from one of the cheapie brands. The sram dangler pull is the same for 10 as it is 11 speeds. If you wanted to go that way, find a second hand or on special 1x dangler and then shell out for the $$ ratio 52 cage extender. Pick up a wide range 10 speed cassette. Sunrace do them up to 52. Would be some big jumps between gears, but you know, try it out, extend the dither ; )

Has it really been that long? Do you have multiple sets? Why it seemed like just yesterday when every H/G build had the Shimano 105-level robocock shakes and wtb koms and cowbells and ox cranks. Since then approximately 69% of them have been converted to hybrids and every single one of them has been sick as hell

With all the fervor over chain waxing, why doesn’t anyone talk about white lightning wax lube? It’s my favorite and seems to satisfy a lot of the things that waxing does. Like my chain stays way cleaner.

I think you would be accused of being an anti-waxxer if you said that. Im the same about my Speedx. I cant believe no one is using it. Its like my own little non-dirty secret.

The current waxing trend is stood up mainly by Silca backed by Zero Friction Cycling lubricant testing. White Lightning Epic Ride is the only White Lightning product tested by ZFC and it ranks in near the bottom in both the cumulative wear and cost to run metrics.

If the drip lube isn’t 1.) on trend 2.) showing a good result on ZFC - it’s not getting any press.

As part of Sick Leave Project Completion, today i waxed my first chain, using an op shop deep fryer with a thermostat that can keep the temp safe, some paraffin wax and PTFE. Starting with a used drivetrain from the trainer setup I degreased and cleaned everything before dipping and dripping.

See how it goes…

I’ve decided that the faff of cleaning beforehand isn’t worth it for me. The wax dilutes whatever crud there is and the wax is cheap (to be fair i am just using candle making wax and on a mix of 8s and badly adjusted 10s)

I then rode it for an hour and that carried out a bunch of remnant black gunk in the wax flakes, so i think you’re right, just wax and rewax and it’ll flush out

Even with new chains I get grey wax pretty quickly. Not sure how much is down to wax oxidation/degradation vs. metal particles from wear in the wax vs. grime from the road or imperfectly washed cassettes.

pretty sure you’ve been a heretic for a lot longer than a decade

My sick hybrid had 105 level hydroshakes, now has 11s friction; had KOM, now has PUB; had cowbells, now has Jones; had 2x on ox cranks, now has 1x on ox cranks.

i think im about to do this to the mone. celebrate its 1 year anniversary of an unchanged build by selling the grx group and puttin some semi-sweepy dooms on it.
