When Shimano says the min teeth on the low sprocket is 40, what does that mean?

From the RD-RX812 info

it’s saying you can’t run that rear derailleur with a cassette having a lowest gear of 39 or less teeth

Sometimes it’s Shimano being Shimano and saying “the cassettes in this group only go down to 40 so that’s all it is compatible with.” Other times it’s something like “if you back the B-screw all the way out, the guide pulley will only be in spec for a 40T cog” (with some wiggle room ofc). But in this case having a 2T difference between min and max is dumb and obviously does not reflect the true capacity.

What size cassette are you running?

The RX800 dangler might be worth looking at. It has the same capacity as the 4700 GS.

pretty sure I have a rx812 and a 11-42 M7000 cassette working mostly nicely

I was trying to up my capacity for 1x gravel, but also use the same bike for a tighter ratio cross gearing. Guess I’ll just have to pick one or the other.

There’s an 11-32 on the right now for cross and I’d like a wider range oprion for gravel.

If a tubeless setup (HED Belgium, new GP5k) is slowly losing air, with no visible leakage, it’s the rim tape, yeah?

It’s ALWAYS the rim tape.

take it outside and rub soapy water on it.

if it’s bubbling out around the spokes, it’s the rim tape.

If it’s not the rim tape, it’s the rim tape.

Anyone seen/tried this light?

If one wants some SPD pedals, is there any reason to get anything other than M520s?

I have every pair of shimanos I ever bought still working so I don’t know how you can go wrong, also ebay is your friend

Not really. One set will last for the rest of your life. I bought the fancy XT model when REI was blowing them out, but there’s no functional difference.

@Rent-to-own-Faxmachine pointed me at this listing a few weeks ago, they are SPD compatible and have worked just fine

smh I know how to use ebay

I was wondering if there’s any appreciable difference in getting the XT or 540s. It sounds like there’s not.
