Did you just ShartQ?

@Mike_Truk has one and has had some good things to say about it!

I would definitely love to have one but wont because of money

I’m such a luddite that tapered forks scare me, with the correct headset this fork’s going to fit in this headtube, right?!

I don’t think so

You can put straight in tapered but you can’t put tapered in straight

really? can’t use an external cup lower and normal upper?

It’s a 44mm not 9/8ths head tube, still weirds me out!

yup, EC 44 lower cup will work

I replaced the stock seatpost on my Xtracycle with a cane creek squishy one. It’s pretty much maxed out at height (Xtracycle has super short seat tube) and I can’t get the damn thing to stop slipping. I’ve got carbon grip paste on there with the seatpost collar (not integrated) cranked way down. With the grip paste it at least slips slowly (as in over the course of days).

What is my best option here? Replace the collar with something higher quality? Add a second seatpost collar? I’m not even sure if that’s doable.

some sort of clamp directly on the seatpost butting up against the collar?

That’s what I was thinking. It’s a 34.9mm collar with a 31.6 seatpost

this sort of double seatpost clamp helped a slipping post on SUPs bike. plus this one is exotic in a captcha font

Was the original Soma Lucas a knock-off of a Blackburn rack? Are there any modern racks available in this style - simple/light, not adjustable or flat-pack; and mount to the dropouts? Modern racks seem to be afflicted by feature creep and are beefy and heavier than what I want.

Pelago was the only one I could find when I went looking a few years ago.

The current version of the Lucas rack doesn’t do it for you?

Wanted to see what other options were out there.

The new one, even without the added stays, is 100g heavier.

VO Constructeur? out of stock right now though

Not sure if Blackburn was the first or not -I’ve also seen those racks on vintage Miyata and Schwinn touring bikes, both with detail differences from Blackburn, the Schwinn one was stamped SCHWINN too.

What size tire are you running? One of the small downsides of the OG racks is the forward stays get narrower where they are joined to the rack platform front edge and fatty 700c tires get close to rubbing.

I’ve got soma’s version and it’s fine, but the fork crown tang had to be spaced out to clear the bottom headset cup and it angles the rack a bit downwards.

Is the tang not redrill-able so you can make the rack sit level?

99.9% sure I have a vintage Blackburn jawn in my parts pile if you are interested. I can pull some measurements. If you are running fatty 700c tires there is a limit where they’ll hit the forward-most stays as they angle inwards near the platform front edge, depending on tire size.

I could drill and re-bend bit it’s a thicc guy, maybe if I get access to a drill press and a bench vise…

SQ some guy on my local Buy Nothing group is giving away a 30-year old lugged-carbon Trek 8700. It isn’t going to maim whoever takes it, is it? Looks like it’s in OK shape but always been curious if vintage carbon is worth the trouble…
