Yeah, theyâre solid. I use Wald struts for the Cetma rack on my Kogswell.
is the cetma rack good? I like the look of it more.
I donât want to make my own. That requires me driving up for west chester on a weekday and fuck all that noise.
Wald baskets are solid and can easily be made solid-er.
I canât find any pictures right now but I bent up a piece of 1x1/8" flat mild steel to bring the struts to the outer edge of the basket. Basically a big flat piece that I bolted to the original strut tabs, added a few extra zip ties, and bent the ends down to bolt to the struts on the right and left edges of the basket. Made everything much more stable when severely overloaded and hucking 5" drops to flat.
Good but heavy. LIke 4+ pounds probably. But good luck finding one. I wouldnât buy from Lane directly, only buy from a shop or previous owner. If you send your money to Cetma thereâs a 50% chance youâll never see your product or money.
Wald struts that are the straight galvanized flat stock are whats up, those telescoping threaded ones are hot garbage, donât fuck with them.

Wald is great and solid out of the box
I just took a Wald off its stock struts and put it on a lil rando rack and TC I think I kinda regret it
You will prob need to space out the lower connection with some presta nuts but thatâs ok. My bike had two nuts per side and it was good
There are (were?) two kinds of flat struts. I had some on a 137 that were far too light a gauge and the basket wobbled excessively. Iâve never used the extending ones.
My best wald setup was the next size up from the 137, bar clamps used, base ziptied to a sweet wraparound Jim Blackburn rack, plus struts to the upper lowrider braze on. All on the tarckyon.
I think cetma is overkill, but wald plus a simple mini front rack would do it.

How are the VO wibble wobble fenders?
I like 'em. I wish the stays used Berthoud-style hardware, but theyâre fine as-is. Coverage is good on the 47mm tires.

According to VO, 58mm (I didnât measure).
DQ1: do disc brake pads pick up grit like rim brake pads do? My rear brake was feeling real crunchy / grindy a week ago so I took it apart to check the pads and they still have like 3mm on them. The crunchy / grindy feeling has since gone away.
DQ2: the dangler on the same bike feels loose at the hanger bolt, feels like itâs not tightened down all the way but it is definitely tight. I think itâs an X7 or X9. Is there a wear part in there like a bushing, or some adjustment that Iâm missing?

Sounds like a warn bushing, which is par for the course with most SRAM derailleurs more than a year or two old.
i am going to build a track rear wheel for simple street commuting duty because iâm getting back into fixie life on the official tarck olmo.
recommend me a 120mm rear track hub? can i pay $35 and get the formula hubs we all grew up on, or should i just get a decent hub? we have all manner of salt and other nasties here.
I never had a problem with Formula hubs.
Wait, now that I think of it, I had a bearing explode once, but that was after five years of daily commuting through every kind of filth Chicago has to offer and the bike shop fixed it while I was at work for like $15.
But still, I wouldnât hesitate to buy another Formula hub (or reuse that one).
