Did you just ShartQ?

You can spend time and money rebuilding the caliper or just spend money replacing it with Shimano

Always Shimano

These are the answers I was secretly hoping for.

What’s good, anything Deore and up? Current brakes are 4 piston, any reason to go back to 2 piston?

Been trying to decide on a bike ride in the Black Hills this week.

Here is the top contender currently:

Here is choice #2:

Route one is close to 100% gravel. Route 2 is a beautiful paved scenic road with a single track connector.

Alternative is do route 1 and then wake up at 5AM to do a ride up to the lookout and back on a different day. The best of both worlds!

Schwalbe Marathon and Marathon Plus come as narrow as 25-622. I have a coworker who has a 20-mile bike commute in Cambridge, England, which has really flinty soils. In the winter he runs Marathons to deal with the flint that washes onto the road. For his completely flat commute, they aren’t that much slower than the Schwalbe One summer tires. Apparently he’s tried nice tires in the winter and punctures multiple times per week. Flint pokes big holes, so I’m not sure how well a tubeless setup would behave.

Lol I guess this shows you how many caliper braked I’ve used recently.

2 piston brakes are for XC racing and drop bar bikes.

The 4 piston deores are great

The new 6120?

Looking at the 7120 SLX or slightly older 8020 XT right now.

Also eyeing the caliper rebuild kit that’s literally 10% of the cost of new brakes and rotors.

The problematic swollen parts are usually in the lever though, might want to troubleshoot exactly where the problem is.

Good reminder, thanks. I wasn’t even considering the lever because I had to rebuild it three years ago right after buying the bike.

I kinda want to refresh my main road bicycle. Six year old Ritchey Road Logic. Want a new frame set.

Are rim brake aluminum crit bike type frames still a thing? Got them sweet Enve wheels that I don’t want to replace. Also don’t think I want to pay for custom. Don’t want to spend too much more than $1k.

Spooky and VYNL came to mind, but they don’t seem to be in stock or maybe even in business.

Bowman looks rad but it seems they’re in between rim brake models.

Kinesis Aithein is almost exactly what I want but it’s kinda ugly. Boring grey like my existing frame and the downtube logo is just gross.

This Condor is gorgeous and in stock in my size. Weight is a bummer though. That’s only like 175g lighter than my steel Ritchey. I’m not a weight weenie anymore but come on.

are you sure you want to ride aluminium and not carbon or steel? if so, Kinesis + custom paint is an option

Caad 13 rim brake frameset (Idk how many $$ tho).

Standert looks p sw8

Metal for sure. I’m worried steel in this price range won’t be light-ish, stiff, lively.

I’m sure CF would be great, but I had poor luck with my last three CF frames. Eventually had problems with the HT, BB or dropouts. They feel disposable. But then, I rarely ride these days. Certainly not putting in 8k mile years anymore.

Custom paint is something I hadn’t thought of. But I’m no design bro.

Really liked the 10 I had for a while. Shouldn’t have sold it. Not loving the seat stays on the 13. Think I want something with more classic lines.

Yes, that Standert v sweet. Interesting.

So, uh, what size is your Ritchey?
