Did you just ShartQ?

you have learned the riddle of steel

Hillman Cycles were around for a long time in Melbourne, their own made frames were generally good. Shop is gone now.

Apollo is an Oz brand, made in Japan or Taiwan usually, ranged from gas pipe to DB CrMo. Raceline was a sub brand, generally on the better end.

They’re still around

You can see a wide range of Apollo’s here, the V and VI were the nicest of the classic steel era

I believe there was also an unrelated Canadian Apollo bike company?

Yeah there’s an Apollo here. Not sure of the history but they’re currently just-above-department-store tier bikes that are distributed by the same company that distributes Everlast welders.

SQ I’m mounting some thunderbutts and I’m getting a slow leak around the valve stem. I’ve already tried pushing it in more (it’s as far as it will go), reseating it, etc.

Should I just fill it up with sealant and hope that the leak gets sealed up? Or should I do something else?

I would confirm the tape is good and then just put 1/2 oz in and swish it around the valve area and see what happens before going all in.

Is it worth having my framebuilder ream a 27.0 seat tube out to 27.2 so I can put a dropper on?

If you tape the beer can shim to the outside of the frame, the 27.2 seatpost will fit.

Who’s got the tarck bear head badge file or link to the shapeways store?

I’ve asked this multiple times and keep loosing it before I end up getting one.

Need it to fit a 8/8" head tube.

Same

Probably. I recently DIY’ed this scenario on my gas pipe Redline. No ragrets.

I did this on a friends old Rocky Mountain hardtail. He was very stoked.

framebuilder just posted this, which got me thinking

I think it was @jimmythefly. I have a cool brass one on my sweet fixie.

Are they on here? I shipped them the frame from Richmond. Former owner has a forest green coffee grinder due for final QC this week.

nah, Irving’s not on here. They’re an SF-based rando, perpetrator/instigator of many of the Boyz on the Hoods shenanigans, and the owner of my old Chameleon.

@face

It me.

What’s the actual head tube O.D. ? Would be different on aluminum vs. steel. I can measure one of my bikes but want to be sure.

Lemme get to a real computer later tonight, I think the page is hidden without the direct link, and it’s been a while since I logged in.

I’ll measure my tubes

What’s the frame? Can you measure the OD of the ST and calculate what the wall thickness will be after removing 0.1 mm from it? I bought a cheap adjustable reamer and just took my time with it after determining the tube had enough beef.

ShartQ: a Berthoud Soulor has come up for sale locally. How do these compare to a B17 narrow? The Soulor is apparently slightly narrower, just wondering if anyone has used both and can comment.
