I’d try some gorilla tape and cable ties first. If that stinks, Elite VIP cage mounts.
I always found success with a strip of tube cut to like 1/4" wide. Then just lash it on and when it’s good a fucking tight either loop it under itself the last wrap or tape it down. Tape also gives it a better finish look.
I would avoid an actual clamp on a carbon pokes
Yeah, I’ve used tape before and it worked pretty well, even through dumb crashes. Was just worried about the carbon part of things.
Carbon is fine with tape. Clamps can smoosh it too much.
For a steel fork, are there specific types of hose clamps that are better than others for attaching cages? It seems like the bigger cargo cages don’t have the same tabs that can hook under hose clamps that some bottle cages have. Can you put a bolt through them (head next to the fork) and attach the cage to that?
King Cage universal support bolts should do the trick.
Giro Rumble VR or Shimano CT5? Or just yolo and Shimano XC5? Need something for work, on the bike, off the bike etc etc
Flats (Chesters) and Vans.
Wearing anything with a sole designed for clipless for an extended time off the bike is a pain.
I can’t wait until all casual clipless shoes do away with stupid laces and replace with Boa system. I have a big list of bike shoes sold overseas that I’ve been considering. Kinda into these to replace my Giro Rumble VR which I have a love/hate relationship with.
I am very hesitant to order shoes from overseas before I try them on so I haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet.
Oh shit those make a lot of sense… but I’m not ready to embrace and display my dorkiness to the world yet
I’ve begun to enjoy my laced cycling shoes.
I’ve used BOA and enjoyed them in the past, but it isn’t a be-all, end-all. Case in point the Five10 kestral lace vs boa that I have. Lace are way, way more comfortable, and I haven’t had to adjust them while riding. I feel like the BOAs need more adjustment and just pinch the shoe around the tongue in not great ways.
I’m pretty into my boa. I haven’t experienced the tongue-pinching but I can see how that would happen.
Two years in, though, and the grippy rubber on the edge of the knob got hard and crumbly and came off both. Now it’s harder to adjust the tightness. I bet a nice thick rubber band could fix it. I obviously don’t give a fuck about looking like a tool in public.
True, I still haven’t had a pair of Boa shoes so don’t want to pour too many hopes and dreams into something before I’ve tried it. I’m sure shoe designers need to construct the shoe around the lacing system instead of just slapping them together without experimentation. I just really, really despise dealing with laces with my skinny/long feet. Where are my clipless Back To The Future Shoes?
I’ve tried every variant of strap/lace/ratchet/boa on the planet for street shoes. Boa is cool but it’s definitely not the holy grail.
I’d say that honestly laces are kinda the best overall.
I’m into the Rumble VR. Have worn them for decently long periods off the bike without drama, but YMMV obvs. I like the laces.
Edit: Edd, you can sometimes get the Rumbles cheap at Anaconda, if you have those in Melbourne. They have 20% off all cycling stuff on occasion.
Yeah no boa plz I want to blend in with my fellow humans
well in that case
That is indeed how I roll (plus superfeet carbon in the Vans!)
Good tip!
