Did you just ShartQ?

Crankarms get cleaned and inspected if you’re already messing around with the bottom bracket or chainrings during drivetrain maintenance. And smooth out any deep nicks in the aluminum with a file

Forged stems only get fucked up from being assembled, so generally leave it alone, and discard if the threads are weird when you decide not to leave it alone

for aluminum road handlebars it’s good to check to see that the width still matches the original spec as they can get stoved in over time, and always inspect when changing bartape

I see a lot of riders around here in the wet season straight up covered in mud. like 12” wide up to the helmet in the back and all up the front too. what possesses an individual to not even use an ass saver?

Are you talking about me when I rode over the the urban German the other day

Because it was wet and I could tell it was splashing up

nope, I saw a pack of riders on Springville yesterday and another group today, both groups mostly on drop bar bikes that looked fender capable

but your wet season bikes all have fenders yes?

Yeah basically, fat caad doesnt

I was out on Leif on the MTB yesterday when the rain started. I really wished I had the fendered bike when the track started to get sloppy.

There was some chatter on the unpaved list earlier in the week about taking fenders off. Maybe it was some of that crew?

handlebar bag suggestion for light-ish touring?

31.8 dropbars, i don’t have a front rack (cx bike)

looking for something bigger and less wiggly than a burrito type bag. more along the lines of touring rather than bikepacking

Roadrunner jammer?

Fabio bag

my experience with bags along the lines of a jammer is that they’re very saggy and wiggly without a front rack

I’ve been playing around with the idea of switching to Rival AXS on my CG, but I haven’t waded into the world of new parts in a long time.

I really like my 110/74 5-bolt nerd cranks and would rather not move to the ugly Rival ones (though they do offer a 160 length that is interesting to me) if I can help it. Are there any chainrings that won’t suck with the 12-sp chain?

I know on the MTB the Shimano 12 speed chain made a horrible noise on the old SRAM 11-spd chainring, but I’m not sure if that’s a function of it being a narrow-wide thing. I’d rather not end up with that.

I’ve been on a Shimergo thing for years now and just don’t even know what is good anymore, but I would really like to move to hydro shakes someday.

But maybe I’ll just say fuck it and do nothing.

12 speed is basically 11 speed

Your desire is the same as mine

I’ve decided if I wade into etap I’ll figure out if I need to change the pulleys if I want to use non sram chain/rings

Maybe not true in this case. You’ll want AXS compatible rings to get decent performance. The AXS chain is different than the Eagle chain.

I’ve heard various accounts on how well things go if you don’t stay within the “ecosystem”.

What I do know is that Rotor makes AXS specific rings for their cranks. Maybe it’s just to mirror the size options Sram pushes, maybe it is in fact the chain.

I’d love to hear some first hand accounts though.

I thought the flat top chains necessitated matching chainrings, but who knows

Chain/ring/cassette should match - can’t convince me otherwise

Does a flat top chain help lateral rigidity of the chain?

My intent is to use a hg cassette body

i mean if it’s that muddy, fenders just gonna get clogged up?
ass saver style jawns don’t really do much (plus they last like 2 rides before they fall off and you don’t know it’s gone until a week later).

Chain is supposed to last longer. I’m skeptical.

i 1000% forgot about this, sorry. i’ll try to make time for it tomorrow

anybody got a 56cm all road gravlocross bike they want to trade for a steel slack hardtail? i dont get out to the trails often any more and sort of want a nice “out my backdoor” bike that i can exhaust myself with.

i may be bored or depressed or something. and im probably not in the right thread but nothing matters any more.
