Yes I believe the Caledonia presumes youre riding it more like a road bike. Bigger stem. etc.

Aspero is longer top tube for a short stem, etc.

I believe that the Aspero is a pretty racey gravel bike, not slack at all.

I’ve read accounts of people owning both bikes. Aspero for gravel/mud, and Caledonia for roadie duties with some hard pack mixed terrain.

The geometry differences between the Caledonia/Aspero are some real 1m/m-er stuff

I get it, just never seen such a clear “use a 10mm shorter stem”

Alright folks. So my bottle cage bosses came right off. They appear to be rivnuts. But like, was the hole drilled too big? Rivnuts installed wrong?
What happened and how do i fix it?

They look like brazed bosses to me, but with a pair of very incompetent brazes

sounds like some eldridge crap

yeah, those are weakly brazed braze-ons

you can get new ones brazed back in, or switch to rivnuts

if you do rivnut, I highly recommend spacing the rivnut with one of these when doing bosses on steel frames. I can send you a pair if you go this route

assuming rivnuts are still a durable option, that seems like my best bet. i paid $1000 for the whole bike, so not working with a big budget for repairs either.

Different question- talk to me about a trek domane slr? Local one for sale for a good price. I could take parts off my other roadie and use it…except for brakes, unfortunately, I could put axs bits on it but need mechanical flat mount brake calipers if I go this way.

My BIL has the alu one, and I’ve only ridden it briefly, but the low low BB is a hoot. I’ve always wanted one.

domane is a good road bike. so is synapse in the same vein. domane has a bit more bb drip and is a bit slacker. maybe more tire clearance but i’m not sure about that.

new carbon domane has a downtube you can hide your weed in. new synapse has integrated radar bits and lights at a certain trim level

both are great bikes but only one was designed by a tarcker. id get either in a heartbeat if i didn’t already have a great heavy steel road bike that i never ride

Yeah I’m just dithering. I have a light rim brake bike, fits 28mm because Enve fork. Disc 30-32mm would be cool.
Wouldn’t mind if it was 18lb bike. Most disc stock is a “lot” heavier

I had a Domane SL, it was a perfectly cromulent bike that can fit 38mm tires and was pretty cushy with all of the flexing bits. There is a lot of stack and reduced reach for a given size, and it’s still a cop bike.

Ok so reality check this:
big bike companies are buying more stores, so that they have brick and mortar direct to consumer outlets.

This means that they probably now care more about how much you can charge for service.

at the same time bikes abruptly get way more complicated to assemble or modify, and get a raft of proprietary parts. You could set up your own integrated bar/stem/headset with complicated cable runs, or for a flat $200 Mikes Bikes takes the pain away.

Am I seeing a pretty straightforward product and service offering integration, or am I at this point about to start ranting about finding Pepe Silvia?

Trying to hook ebike pay pigs is a huge part of this consolidation as well. Returning customer rate for someone who buys [their brand] $2000 ebike is significantly higher than someone who buys a $2000 bike.

Oh god yeah but that’s corporate store and ibd alike.

Like I’m sure that some of this is just how the industry was going anyways, but it seems like quite the constellation
