50T chainrings for a Shimano FC-R8000 crankset are one of those Shimano parts that impossible to get in the US these days, right?

Any reasonable alternatives?

If you have no other choice, absolute black rings are functional.

I believe you can get a R8000 ring to fit with minimal fuckery. Or maybe 6800. I can’t remember. A bit of time with a file and they are all “compatible”.

Can I put p-clamps on a cheap oval aluminum fork to secure a rack? Most of the p-clamps folks sell for racks say something about round fork legs and they’re all shown on old steel bikes.

nah, shouldn’t.

Follow up Q: can I attach a rack to a oval alloy fork without eyelets? Am I now limited to attaching it to the axle/qr?

I’d replace the fork with a touring fork if you want peace of mind and a rack on the front

No. I found that you really need to tighten the p-clamp so it won’t slip under load and I’d be nervous about it attempting to round off the fork blades (with the hilarious consequences thereof) under the clamp.

Run the stays to the axle; it’s not quite as pretty as a midfork mount, but will be less likely to end up shattering your helmet and/or skull.

Anyone ridden the Cervelo Caledonia? Yes I know it’s BBRight, and they apparently understand it’s not the best and are building the bikes with a thread-together BB…I have an Aspero and it’s yet to creak, and once it does, I’ll get a Wheels MFG.

I’m not ready to go buy anything, but do want a disc road bike. What do

I haven’t ridden one, but have sold a few. Look like some great bikes, and a pretty versatile disc road bike. Holler at me if you need help tracking one down.

Thanks. It looks great geometry wise for me. My rim custom geometry roadie is almost the same stack, which works really well. Im built more for a ‘endurance’ geometry which the Caledonia is sort of, but race enough for me.

We started selling them. I have zero need for a carbon road bike but if I was looking this would be on the short list along with a synapse.

What size are you?

54cm

If you decide to buy hit me up.

Sent ya a ‘chat’

Aren’t the aspero and Caledonia the same bike with different chainstay lengths/clearances?

I think I read one as a road bike that could do gravel and the other is a gravel bike that could do road

I was looking at a Caledonia for a while

54 cm Cervelos fit me well.

Yeah, they’re pretty similar. Aspero has no fender mounts. Caledonia has a slightly shorter reach. I have NO idea if one is more compliant than the other. Aspero weighs a bit more.

shorter reach with the assumption that you’re using a longer stem, right?
My understanding of gravel geometry is that they’re borrowing from progressive mtb geo - longer and slacker so you get the wheel out in front of you.

I think both the Aspero and Caledonia look neat, and both are tantalizingly close to fitting me. But, alas, I have two other frames in the works right now…
