Disco Slippers

lol they’re not the boa ones but they’re the boring velcro jobs

I’m a 43 wide in Shimano.
If Eddddbreadddd isn’t interested maybe drop Rod/rcoh a line, pretty sure he’s one size smaller than me.

I’m good thank you, fully committed to flat pedal lyf now. Ended up getting some SH-GR701’s which suit my wide feet perfectly.

I have some shitty old cleats on my shoes that I can’t get off with Allen wrenches. Kinda fucked up the flats trying.

Called a shop, told them exactly what was up, asked if they could drill them out for me

Said yeah, no problem

Show up and a different guy is like, nope, not doing that

So I’m going to try to drill them out. But I was annoyed as heck

is there any way to dremel a little notch in the bolt head that you could get a flathead screwdriver into? I’ve had luck with that before

Yeah, i’ve done that dremel trick you mentioned. I vaguely emember holding a stubby handle / wide-bit flat head screw driver with some pliers to get a little more leverage. Might also want to soak the threads you can reach with some sort of penetrating lubricant.

I should buy a dremel

I’ve never been defeated by a seized cleat bolt. Drill the bolt with a fairly large bit to pop the heads off. Once the the cleat is out the remains of the bolt will usually come out with just a bit of convincing with some vice grips.

maybe also add some hex+ allens to your toolbox, should get a better grip initially and not round out the head.

torx also comes in handy, as does some rubberband/aluminum foil

I have also dremeled the slots
It works

Returned the slightly cheaper shoes (need the E sizing and it didn’t feel right) and got the rx-800 “Gravel racing shoes” And I like them a lot, pretty fucking comfortable and stiff. I am now someone who wears $250 bike shoes to ride their bike to work I guess.

Never had a full carbon sole before. Should I be worried about dings and scuffs? Cuz I gonna fuck these guys up real bad, that’s my way

Oh for sure, I would definitely reconsider. I feel like most of the fastboi racing shoes these days are not designed for daily abuse and walking around. I am an automatic no if there is any non-rubberized pieces (plastic or CF) on the sole that can make contact with the ground as the tiny rubber nubbins wear down (usually quickly).
Sizing is a pain in the ass tho so limited availability for unique foot shape probably trumps all other considerations.

you consider any of the PI shoes? Ex-sup had the women’s version of these and she was really impressed with how well they worked on and off the bike.

I dunno, I’ve got an older set of Shimano full-carbon soled jobbies and they’ve held up fine for MTB and general duties.

I’m not commuting erreyday like you are, so the life of the rubber tread might be an issue. But the carbon itself is fine, and I’ve done some hike a bike, cyclocross, rocky dry streamed crossing, etc.

i’ve never given a fuck about scuffing a carbon sole. i think it’s a different beast than bike frame carbon, but maybe that’s just what i tell myself… also never had one fail or do anything resembling failing

I’ve broken a few nylon soles, and dgaf about scuffs and dings to carbon ones

the only way you can possibly wear through them is by using eggbeaters
