staying with spd? need more mountain or roadie-esque? shimano rx8 is a “gravel” shoe with more roadie qualities, but still has some lugs.

I consumed some RX8s late last year for road-ish use, haven’t had a chance to try them out yet tho. Ended up with them strictly out of fit issues with everything else I’ve used (Specialized, Sidi, Lake) and other stuff that hasn’t fit me at all (looking at you Giro).

@anon24974279 what size?

I’m going to be using them entitely on the road but yeah sticking spd and i like to be able to walk around a little bit in a relatively normal way. Those look pretty good. Part of what feels narrow is the heel I think.

  1. I havent tried many different shoes just these and some other lace ups in the distant past for camping.
    Im almost wanting to go to platform pedals but they just look so wrong on a road bike to me. But riding in my chucks is enticing.

I like those RX8s, but with the Australia tax they’re well out of my budget. Gonna get the RP301s with the SPD adapter, should give me most of it.

So when you’re heat molding shoes ( at 70c/160f in this case), you have to take off Boa dials and laces? I’m waiting for comfirmation from Bont on this, as I’d rather not melt important parts of the shoe, but also am lazy and don’t want to deal with removing and then restringing a pair of Boas

i need help. i am looking for a new mountain bike shoe. i have pretty narrow feet but not narrow enough to be a technical “narrow”.
requirements: mountain bike shoe. NO laces (i tried, i do not like). clicky buckles or boas (i’ve never had boas). biased towards “fairly cheap”. i really don’t care what they look like.
what works: i have absolutely loved every pair of sidi shoes i’ve ever had.
what doesn’t work: northwave, gaerne, giro empire

i’d just buy another pair of sidis but all of you always talk shit about how old fashioned they are, so i’m wondering if there’s something better.

side note: anyone want to buy a pair of giro empires in a 43? they’re blue. they’re pretty new but have a grease stain on them.

not to distract from narrow shoe chat (in the same boat)

I may be in the same boat because some of the same shoes definitely do NOT work for me. Shimano’s higher-end XC stuff works great for me.

Any idea if the fit is shared by the other models like the ME7?

I’ve always found the fit on the non-XC stuff to be noticeably more spacious.

Were you a former sidi wearer?

Tried some a LONG time ago and found the instep support too high. No idea if that’s different now.

Here is a very helpful chart showing what sort of fit to expect from different models: https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/technologies/apparel-accessories/footwear/more-lasts.html

According to Shimano, the ME7 is around 5% wider in the toe box than the xc models.

i forgot i got a pro code for shimano so i will definitely be purchasing their shoes. which shimano MTB shoes do you have?
i am trying to decide between the XC9 and the XC7. the 9 is twice the price of the 7.

this is VERY helpful, thank you

I have the v1 XC7 which was way way better than v2. V2 upper boa/flap is fussy and some people have complained about the inner part of the toung cutting into their arch. I found this to be a weird pinch point when I tried some on as well. The RX8 gravel shoe is much more like the original XC7 and and after trying them on, they are absolutely what I am going to replace my current v1 XC7s with soon.

@panda_heavy_metal or other aus ppl, anyone want a size 42 pair of Shimano SH-ME301

worn once but a teeny bit too small 4 me

spdz only

https://bike.shimano.com/en-AU/product/apparel-accessories/shimano-series-lsg-2019/SH-ME301.html

I used to be 42 BITD in shimano, but I haven’t tried a modern one for yonks. I used to webmunster websites for a couple of pro cyclists, and I was very lucky that they both wore 42’s, so I was also sorted for foot-wear.

I’m usually a 43 depending on make. and 44 in shimano winter shoe IIRC.

@Eddbread / @hellocrimpy ?

woah I’m boa-curious dat colour though… slides into ζηεδΨ’s dm
