This makes me feel like an ass for having Klampers on my HG. Only have them because my roommate at the time had a set of protos that he gave me. They really don’t work well at all.

free gets a pass atmo but mostly because i know you in real life. i’d say there is a statute of limitations though, at some point you need to get the hayes grabbers everyone swears by to confirm that they work better or buy my spyres for the price of hayes jawns though
They’re fine for free or even real cheap. Full retail in them is silly and a half.

Just put on the new decals. Should have started nds, because drive side now isn’t properly centered. Thought it’d be easy, but newer ones are larger than old ones. Did put h/g name on tt near ht because didn’t feel like going to chainstay and taking that old one off.
Since we finally have searchable archives it’s each to check Tarck is pretty ‘meh’ on Spyres.

My take on spyres from personal exp:
The pad adjustment bolts back out as you cycle the brakes, resulting in unnerving brake loosening when you need them most.
The pads are water soluble and perhaps one of the worst solutions for wet riding.
The cable pull ratio is not optimized for road levers, making them spongey even with compressionless housing.
The pad standard is too tall, making it hard to replace the terrible pads with modern metallic units.
The dual pad actuation is a gimmick.
I’ve never used hayes. The shimano 317 or whatever road brakes work well enough. These days I use hydros, or knockoff bb5s with flat bars when I’m trying to be really cheap

The Hayes are great with good housing. Sounds like spyres are bullshit.
