Literally like the most import thing.
Cant wait to get my fork back and get cruising on this thing.

Agreeing with this.

Shipped my fork out today, so the only days ruined will be mine for the next two weeks, but can’t wait to get it back. It’s my favorite dropbar bike already.

this

I got my fork back insanely quick but had to box it up before it was fully built to come back to Euroland. Out of town again, hoping for a quick build Friday/Saturday and first real ride on Sunday.

@puelnewdle,

did you end up using those OEM 685s? The hydro lines are def too long for the large frame - I will need to shorten at some point. Seems like that Shimano “easy-fit” connector on the rear will make this unnecessarily challenging

I did and ended up trimming both the front and rear hoses because too long, but grabbed a couple of extra sets of BH59 barb/olive first. This was my first go at setting up wet brakes and it wasn’t bad at all. The rear line (the long section from the caliper), as best I can tell, is just a barb with a seal over it. The olive is in the connector thingy and is held in place by that yellow plug. I cut the long line, put in a new barb, then into the connector. I trimmed the front hose at the shake with a new barb/olive. I ended up doing a full bleed on both afterward because I’m dumb and let the hoses flip oil all over the place when they were cut.

I think you’re right. Unfortunately I got too excited and put the line together before remembering they likely needed to be trimmed

I’m hoping the olive really is loose inside that fitting and will come out easily if I disconnect (so I can trim as you described). Need to source parts though, so will likely be riding with some extra hose for a bit…this will most certainly ruin someone’s day.

Based on pulling the hose out of the shake, the olive should be firmly attached to the hose and come out easily enough.

You’ll ruin my day just by having a ridable ruiner.

First ride is in the books!

Finished up a quick and dirty build late Saturday just in time for Sunday ride. Many things still todo including trimming hydro lines, fenders, lights, baggage, etc.

Still need to spend some time finessing the rack mount. It doesn’t want to sit level because the bracket runs into the lower headset cup / race. May have to file it down

In the end rode ~40 miles on Sunday including dirt, gravel, path, creek fording with no major problems (note: this photo was taken before I realized the seat had slid back).

Overall: this is my first bike 1) in 650b sizeway 2) with tubeless 3) with road hydro and I loved it. Low trail wasn’t much of an issue but I tried and couldn’t ride it no handed. I also need to work on the fit a bit - felt like my wrists were taking too much pressure. Hoods were perfectly OK but the drops weren’t super comfortable.

I’m so excited to be done with the planning / waiting and now be able to just ride it!

That brown looks so good.

Could you file the top of the rack plate to clear your headset?

Monday officially ruined!

Loving the rando box.

DQ: seatpost clamp size on the first-run Hunter/Gatherer? I know it was discussed but search is not giving me all of it.

I’m at work and I want to ebay some stuff in matching colorway.

30mm with a caveat: On my large, a Salsa Lip-Lock was too tall to sit flush against the seat tube and hit the top tube before being fully inserted. I think others didn’t have that issue though. You might want to find one that’s lowish profile.

I couldn’t get a 30.0 to clamp sufficiently tightly, might put some shim stock in there if I can find some thin enough. Salsa does sit high on mine too, bit of filing would help it seat fully.

Sadly I missed out on ordering a sw8 orange Spank one from euroland in 29.8.

I’m using the stock one for now.

My 30.0 salsa touches, but it hasn’t slipped a bit. #theluckyones

CG was 29.8 Thomson, but that touched/slipped. Went 30 Salsa and no issues.

Fork made it to FBM a week ago, but the dude left for a snowboard trip, so earliest it will be shipping is Friday, which is fine… but gosh each little thing…

Everything will be worth the wait. It really will.

I’m loving the brown. Was worried it would be boring but the transparency and “shimmer” is really interesting.

imagonna take as much off the top of the rack support plate as possible and refit to see.

If the extra 20cm of hydro line up there wasn’t enough to ruin someone’s day the cardboard surely will. Was meant for just one ride but have used it everyday since. Too damn handy!

Damn, guess I’m in this cru too. My fork should have gotten there yesterday.

I was too busy looking at the box to even notice the hoses! Totally stealing that idea in the future.
