Exclusive Review: HED Track Hubs & Ardennes Rims

Shit’s fast!

Thems are ugly as hell.

+1

I doubt it. Those wheels aren’t deep enough to give you any significant aero advantage, and just because Hed put their name on it, doesn’t make it fast. And Bontrager tires don’t help.

God, those are some over built hubs. They are ugly as fuck too.

not as much as that purple chain.

Im not taking any equipment advice from a dude with a purple chain!

How the fuck would you know?

Hahaha. Because she read an article, dude.

placebo, schmacebo.
As long as you think they are fast, that is all that counts.

I think that’s why those hubs were used in the olympics this year.

they look like phil woods with different cutouts to me. what’s the retail?

bikes aren’t fast, riders are. I’d take phils any day.

damn am i the only one that thinks theyre kinda funky lookin? they may not be aero, but if theyre light and stiff than thats really all that matters assuming youre not on the track. also i dig how tasteful the HED logo is on the hub. the rims would look better if they didnt say “ardennes!” on them though.

this is of course all assuming theyre not redic expensive…

They are not available yet.

You’re right about the rims. They are very light, stiff and not for the track. They are some road rims that HED laced onto the hubs for us to try them out. The ardennes is just a sticker. The Ardennes road wheelset goes for close to a grand, so I’m sure these are expensive.

i’d hit that.

So I guess the HED marketing hype is that these rims are special because they’re 23mm wide (instead of a more standard 20mm) and more rounded profile to offer a clincher ride that feels like tubulars…

Nice idea but I find it hard to believe. I’d rather see tubeless clinchers take off…

Ugly build, but the hub looks ok. Not sure why the world needs another track hub though.
