incorrect placement of leather washers, that’s a paddlin’
Huh? Do people run the leather washer on the inside of the fender?

You’re in the clear according to this. I put leather washers on the inside and outside of the fender, but not on the fender stays. I only used them where the fender x frame collabos are going on.
I believe Jawn/Weigle approach is leather betwixt fender and frame/rack only. But leather everywhere seems okay.
ohhhh, I was wondering why the bike shop installed 45 leather washers on my partners LHT fenders when they built it up. Mystery solved.
The stays are flexy already so no additional compliance is needed at fender/stay interface. More important to keep the nut from vibration loosening, if you have soft washers you also need nylocks
Nylock all the things atmo.

jesus fucking christ!
Shit got wild.
Amazing.
lol, the tube!! an A for effort
should’ve mounted the rear segment with those bendy-brake bridge clips behind the Sheldon nut. would even out fender line and close the gap around the brake
what is the best set of not super ugly black fenders for my endpoint?
My best guess would be VO Zeppelin’s with Honjo och GB hardware.
SKS Longballs if you can stand plastic ones.
Also I found some “Handsome Cycles” black stuff that I don’t know the quality of…
Yeah, the valve stem gag, along with a reusable zip tie at the seat tube, means I don’t need any tools to remove
the forward fender section. This’ll be key for flat changes because rear drops are forward facing and it’s tough getting the wheel in and out even without a fender.
My Planet Bike ALX fenders look pretty sick. Weight seems comparable to any other inexpensive fender, but I haven’t so much as taken them out of the package, much less weighed them, yet.
Anybody here a Specialized dealer?
The fenders that come stock on the AWOL Elite intrigue me, I would like to purchase a set.
Aluminum, matte black, over 700x 42 tires, black anno berthoud-type stays, include nice rubber flap front and rear. Actually that whole bike was surprisingly nice, comes with a Tubus rear rack and the Specialized front rack is actually not-horrible.
the skinnier black aluminum Specialized fenders on the Diverge are awful
heavier than Honjo, but not at all stiff so the rear bounces uncontrollably and the stays fail from fatigue
Just checking in since this thread got bumped. Ended up going with the Berthoud fenders for ladybiek’s soma, and I like them somewhat better than the VO counterparts. Also, we actually went to Boulder Bicycle to pick them up and GAT DAM, it’s retrogrouch heaven in there. Highly recommend stopping in if you’re able to.

Did not see those up close, but forgot to look for them (at Gregg’s greenlake). The AWOL ones are zeppelin shaped a bit (look similar to PB alx) so I’d imagine ar emuch stiffer and less bouncy.
