Very cool!
Any pics of it painted and built up?
That’s pretty damn neat!
round thing in the top tube locks with the seatpost when folded?
What’s the boss behind the seat tube?
The tube in the bridge between top tubes is a seatpost holder for when it’s folded. The boss behind the seattube is for attaching the front wheel (thru-axle) when it’s folded for train travel or storage at home.
nifty
Both frames also eventually got a tab on the downtube where the seat clamp/locking mechanism would bolt to when folded.
That’s super cool!!
How do you avoid dinging up the paint during the swing? On the video there is obviously some rub bw the top tubes and rear cluster when swung.
I think I cold set it after the video, IIRC the top tubes pulled in a bit when the bridge was welded in. V2 has smaller top tubes with a bit more clearance.
I believe the plan was that any frames eventually being produced for sale would be stainless or Ti since travel bikes tend to take some abuse on the paint. I don’t think the project has gone anywhere since I made the two frames… the bends in the two main tubes were done on a roll bender and required .045” straight gauge tubing so the prototypes were like 2500g frames. I think he was having trouble finding interested fabricators and a source for butted tubing with the required bends.
So fucking cool Rauce.
Just the coolest. You have skills I wish I possessed.
It’s less nifty, but wouldn’t it be easier if the the frame just had a pivot in front of the BB?
Probably. I remember that being an iteration of the design. I think there’s a reason it wasn’t what I ended up building but I can’t remember.
Probably not clear in the video since it’s not built up but the reason for the twin top tubes is that you can fold it with the rear wheel on since the twin top tubes fit around the tire/rim.
It’s neat but I have a narrow pedalling style and the twin top tubes were super annoying the couple times I rode it.
The project overall was an excellent learning experience. I learned that I’m better off making shit for myself and for friends. When you already have a full time job there ain’t no time left for the dithering of a designer.
what do you guys think is going on here? the lug is blended into the tube, its not ask crisp as where the other lugs meet their respective tubes. this is under where the top tube meets the head tube.
it got filed down real low. It’s fine, just ugly. Might be indicative of other corners being cut but whatever.
yeah this is an unknown frame, i have a feeling its an early frame from a rookie builder but without hallmarks or stamps i have no idea who it is. lol if this is the hallmark
I guess this goes here? New GB carpet fiber tarck bikes, made by Hope. They go into quite a bit of detail about how they do it.
That was pretty cool! I’d be stressed as fuck if one of our engineers dropped a mold design like that in my lap and said make this. Having little inserts that drop in to make the sharp corners was super cool.
