Gear Recommendations (old)

They all rip in 6-8 weeks atmo. Probably Defeet. But cheap ones from army/navy/work clothes store are better than any of them.

ive had defeet since last winter. they look a little gungy but they work just fine.

Honestly I stopped using and lost mine before they ripped. They just weren’t warm enough to be useful for me. The cheap unbranded pair doesn’t look as cool and the wool isn’t as smooth but they’ve lasted 3 winters so far and are way warmer.

My defeet gloves have been surprisingly versatile for the past 2 years of PNW riding. They get overwhelmed if it’s especially cold or wet but for 40F+ with or without drizzle, they are awesome.

Yep, exactly that. But anything near mid30s degrees and hands get too cold

Shouldn’t you PNW guys be all over bar mitts anyway? I only use them during the winter, but they are so good on wet days

yeah… this. They do wonders in shitty cold rain here too. Why wouldn’t you want a giant neoprene tent for your paws?

It doesn’t rain here anymore, and it’s certainly not cold enough for Bar Mitts (which I actually have). For the few days that it does rain, I have these:

I wore my army surplus gloves more off the bike than on. I was just asking because I was wondering if these ones from Q are up to years of abuse like my old ones say.

because then you have barmitts on your bike for the 80% of the time when you don’t need them. Fenders, yes, because the street is wet, but a light drizzle is hardly worth putting some giant nerd bag on your handlebars.

The only people I’ve seen with barmitts are cops who need to keep their hands warm but not wear gloves so they can shoot black people and natives. (Seattle P.D., Portland P.D.)

There’s a crazy person in and around Beacon Hill on a full squish MTB who rides year round with Bar Mitts. Several tarckers have spotted him/her.

My poly defeet are filthy but intact after 1.5 season of nearly daily use. As others have mentioned, even non e-touch versions gain rudimentary e-touch capabilities pretty easily.

There are a lot of fucking dorks with barmitts in Seattle. I have zero respect for non-octogenarian people who use barmitts in Seattle.

I bought barmitts for supgirl’s commuter after years of her complaining of numb fingers. Reynauds is real, people.

My toes suffer but above freezing I basically don’t wear gloves. shrug

These Sealskinz gloves aren’t cheap, but they’re warm and my hands don’t get clammy if I’m overdressed. Fit is a bit odd, though–the palm/cuff are wide compared the finger length/width (and they loosen slightly with use).

Oh man those Sealskinz look sw8, if I’d known about them a month ago I might have bought some.

Barmits =/= fenders, for real they take 10 seconds to take off/put on. I commute with them in the morning and take them off for the ride home. I also had them on for my entire tour in Iceland. Fuck 50 and raining my hands were happy.

this is not a gear recommendation, just a psa to say that barmits kick ass.

I was given some barmitts this winter and man I tried to hate 'em but I can’t. riding in the teens with no gloves, so ugly and so good.

My issue is people using them when it’s sunny and 50.

That i see this one dude riding in shorts while wearing bar mitts all the time and i just want to punch him in his stupid face.

sell me yr unwanted set of barmitts?
