Gear Recommendations (old)

Dang, weird. I really liked the Slim Trouser cut as a short dude, but admittedly the cut could be worse if you got long legs and they don’t taper appropriately
Anyone use the Shimano RS685 yet? Considering it for the crossmuter/rainbike. My front shifter needs replacing anyway and the stock mechanical discs have a terrible lever feel. Kinda pricey though, and I’m running 10spd still, so I’d need to get a new cassette, rear der, and hub (or wheels since im on the cheapo stock ones anyway)…
Now that I’m typing it out it seems kinda silly to spend that much just to get better braking.

Anyone have thoughts on the TRP HY-RD?
I don’t like mine. Have never been able to set them up as good as I felt they could be HOWEVER I have not yet resorted to fancy compressionless housing. But at the moment they are about well-adjusted BB7 road level performance.

I am going to switch to some Spyres or Hayes CX pros and try them, eventually will upgrade to integrated hydro stuff but will be a while.

What model?
The latest slim trousers are great and feel nice an snug all the way through. They even reduced the width from the knee down in the revised version from this year.

Durable cotton slim trousers, They were over 8 inches (one side) at the knee and were over 7 at the opening. They fit like dickies or carharts atmo. They were snug in the thighs when moving and flexing but shapless over the knee and to the ankle. I had a pair of their “skinny” jeans which were ok, but not skinny at all.

I ordered the cadence jeans to see whats up with them (measurements put them substantially skinnier) . A bit disappointing cuz I love the durable cotton material.

To put this a bit in context I am 5’6" with boots on and am 125, I feel like levis 511s are a bit loose and anything over that and I feel awkward/bad in them, part of that is that my entire wardrobe of shirts is fitted/slim which doesnt pair well with loose pants.

Ugh, after my frank & oak jeans gave up the ghost, I have only old H&M sliq (and they aren’t nearly as slim as I remember) or these Levis I got coz needed black jeans.
xmas get here soon!

Oh that does make sense in context. Sucks dude. The Durable Cotton material is indeed swag city.

I thought consensus is pretty much that compressionless / linear housing is mandatory for cable(-actuated) discs to not hardcore turd…

I dig the Betabrand bike jeans

True story.

Get the BMX stuff.

Hit up Uniqlo?

Yeah, used to come to NYC and grab a pair or two every year. But I haven’t been this year. I guess they finally have them online these days.

I like 48x16.

Tire inflator for a compressor, do I just get the Park Tool or do I try and make one from HF and old pump head?

HF inflator is garbage. Anything else would be better. At one shop we had this, we cut the hose at the end and put a silca head on.

We had a few of those, but the guy who built them actaully removed the hose entirely and brazed brass tubing to the Milton, with a Silca Presta or Schrader valve brazed at top. Best design ever - they worked for decades before they finally crapped out.

The Park one is pretty good, too.

Suggest to me an all-in-one tubless kit for a total tubless noob.

Stan’s Kit.

I’ve used it to convert janky-ass Alex rims on wifemtnbiek. Worked great with a real tubeless tire. Get the right width for your rim. May be overkill if you have tubeless rims already.

I’ve got stans rims but the tublessability of nomad tires is dubious at best. we will see how it goes.

Then you only need stans tape, valves, and some goopy stuff. I use orange seal.

Tape: I used to use 3M 8896. Works ok unless you get some oil on the rim or tape, then it doesn’t stick well.
Now I use clear gorilla tape. It’s slightly stretchy so it lays down a lot easier. Better adhesive.

Valve: The bontrager valves are super solid and cheapest too
I also tried: WTB = a bit finicky, orange sealant = terrible

sealant: homebrew 2 part window washer fluid, 1 part latex mold builder
works as good as the expensive orange sealant I used to buy
