getting hit by cars

I’ve been creamed the exact same way. It’s a bit of a surprise and I certainly didn’t have the clarity to whip my foot in there at speed.

glad your boy’s ok after what probably should have killed him, but he has to take full responsibility for having the accident. i’m a little surprised at how lightly everyone seems to be taking a bunch of stories about guys almost dying. dude lucked out. if you can’t confidently find a way not to roll straight into a fucking intersection if ONE part of your bike fails you shouldn’t be riding one.

no brakes for (shorter) life!

Except that a person can pay damages and be at fault, a deer can not.

Sorry to hear about it, and I’m glad your friend is ok. Hopefully the girl’s insurance will not try and get damages out of your friend for this, but if you draw a parallel to this situation in a car/car accident (brake or accelerator malfunction), they likely would. My best advice is for your friend to call his insurance company or talk to a lawyer the second the girl’s company starts getting a hold of him, they won’t be patient, and they’ll try and pressure him to say what they want on many recorded phone calls.

Not trying to be a downer, but if she’s filing a claim, and the police report says your friend was at fault, you can’t take this insurance stuff lightly. The agents are bad people and will do all kinds of crazy stuff to get the answers they want. In one case I had the same agent tell me that what I was reading off the police report was a lie, lie to me about when they received the accident report, then yell at me telling me my bike “couldn’t have been worth much, like $100, right, I’ve bought bikes before, give me a brake.”
When my track bike was trashed they guy on the phone kept insisting that my bike was a “total”, even though it was a bike you couldn’t replace off the shelf (it’s a Leader). Even if they got me a Fuji Track comp or a Pista Concept they’d still have to shell out another $450 for a trispoke and tire.

Also, State Farm claiming I was a pedestrian. WTF? Bicycle is legal vehicle in Ohio. Says so right on the police report.

Sure that isn’t a fork bend?

That’s really all the damage to his bike but I’m going to go to his house to take pictures of his back. He bled all over the sidewalk
I can’t wait!!!

Please stop getting hit by cars. That is all.

Don’t be such a backseat driving little bitch. You weren’t there. Any of us could have done worse, I’m sure.

don’t do it again…gettin’ hit by carz

edit - way late?

brake setup group buy?

Seems to be a rash of this thing. Glad he is ok, but your friend should offer to pay all of the damages if he can- he owes her at least that. I am sorry, this brakeless thing is fucking stupid.

The point isn’t that the guy didn’t act appropriately in the moment, but that he set himself up for a bad situation in the first place by not having basic safety stuff on his bike. So, really, many of us can and do do better than he did. His situation sucks, but it was easily preventable. Mad bike skillz yo isn’t the issue.

issue is.
cars. stop hittin em.

many lulz in this thread, but this my favorite

Also thread should be called “hitting cars” cuz he hit it

I was just about to post “Can we please have a name so as to stop saying ‘your boy’”

Life is about risk management. Every friend I have here in ND riding fixed is riding brakeless except me (and my wheels aren’t even machined).

Flying aeroplanes taught me about risk management cuz no brakes/pause button.

If your windscreen pops out, but your engine is on fire who gives a shit about the window?

A brake is simply a failsafe in the event of an emergency. I never use mine, but I always have my finger on the lever.
