I bought one from a coworker in Sept
whatâs your long term review?
Well, mostly that the chainring thatâs on it is too small, but havenât been bothered to change it. Itâs a fun bike. I got it for a little less than the close out price so it was a no brainer. I thought it would be to have for non-bike people to ride, as a booze-cruiser and beer runner. It works great for that. I think you got the nail on the head with your first impression. Itâs certainly a fun bike to pedal around. If I was still in San Jose I would be totally pumped on it and it would probably be my main ride for around town
Dang, thereâs seven of us living or soon to be living Katu life
tarck renaming to katu central
Not it
looks like its @JUGE_FREDDâs job when his gets in
sigh, unzip
ta-ku, obv. with ads sold to blue lug.
quick, to the trademark machine!
how do you best convert to hanging mount?
The flange that it sits on is bolted into the case, so I can unbolt it, drill & tap (m3) the appropriate holes @ 180°, then bolt it into those new holes. The wiring still hangs out the bottom, but I prefer to keep them there so that water wonât drain into the casing.
If youâre drilling the new holes with a hand drill, you need to completely disassemble the headlight before firing up the drill, because the circuit board comes very close to the casing right at the spot where youâd be drilling through, and if the drill jerks forward as it cuts through it will go right into the circuit board and cut the ground plane in half. You can guess how I discovered this (though it was pretty easy to solder in a jumper to fix that wagon.)
I drill the new hole as an m4, because I use the m3 it came with to plug the old hole & Iâve got a bunch of m4 bolts left over from when I resoled my Giro Metropolis shoes last summer. Itâs maybe a little more durable with a larger bolt, but itâs a fairly lightweight lamp so I donât think itâs actually a problem with the m3 bolt it came with.
Thanks. I took the front and back off today but didnât see an âeasyâ way to pull out the circuitsâŚprobably something about screws inside?
I also dont have the right taps so I may just not proceed just yetâŚ
The circuit board is bolted in from the front of the casing
Thanks, I didnt have the best screwdriver, but I was able to take everything out.
Went to the local shop, got 2.5mm drillbit and a m3 tap because my other one was shit so im all set.
aw.
WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO THE KATU KREW
there are six more of us in salt lake city, four with e-assist. a buddy of mine just swapped the motor out for a 28 mph assist thing. he plans on doing some loaded touring with his this spring.
might powdercoat the basket bc the inside of it is getting torn to bits but it is 100% my fav bike ever
Oh I guess mine got delivered yesterday
how does the light work mounted there? have you ever wished it were mounted to the basket instead?
uh Iâll say its a lot more visible to oncoming traffic than it helps me out. it was arguably nicer on the backet IME but i put it back on the crown because i prefer the light to follow where Iâm turning the bike
im gonna try and mount the light to somewhere on the fork blade to make the light a bit less obstructed. if anyone has other pro (or otherwise) tips lemme know
rivnut to the fork? i might do that in the future, as well as rivnuts for the DT for bottle cage
let stalk locking up.
big wheel bikes ive always mini-u-ed to bike lockup via seattube and rear wheel, with cable tying in the front wheel. wtf do i do with this thing. i havent had to leave it outside for more than 30m yet so ive just u locked to the TT
