Y’all making me feel homesick with this Chicago talk (I grew up in central IL but lived just over the border in WI after college and all my childhood friends moved to Chicago a long time ago so many fond memories there).
I need to get my exploring friendly bike back together, stupid quill stem adaptor not working right. Might just upgrade to threadless fork like I did for my sons bike
Two good options to get rid of that adapter:
1:
2:
edit: oh god now I wish I still had a threaded bike so I could put these ridiculous things on it!
Supportive Upstanding Partner and I did our first properly long and hilly ride on the tandem. Mostly great for a cheap gateway drug
goals. never ridden a tandem. is it easier or harder to be the stoker?
I’ve also never really ridden a tandem.
Seems like it would be easier physically but harder emotionally.
Also fart sniffing.
I think easier? You don’t have to shift and steer, just pedal. But for some people thats harder.
Coordinating chainring shifting is the hardest bit IMO
For my wife and I its pretty great as she doesn’t want to do the shifting or steering. She probably would like to have control of the brakes when we are going downhill. Tandems have such a long wheelbase and are so stable at speed which I enjoy and she is not so fond of.
Give her a thumb shifter drag brake to control.
that’s certainly an option although I’m not sure that our tandem can have the setup without some serious dithering.
Thank god I had an excellent Topeak multi tool with chain breaker and a quick link. Thought I started to hear a strange noise about halfway up, but I was listening to an audiobook so wasn’t paying too much attention.
SIR, THIS IS TARCK
easier to be the stoker if y’all jive. captaining is tricky although the only times i’ve done it were on mtb trails. my dad is still alive though. after captaining a tandem, hopping on a single low trail bike really feels like the dog is wagging your tail for a bit
Caught up with one of my old Peachtree Bikes customers today with a little partypace. Man I think I like this Chisel better for the grav than my Crux.
Chisels are rad, though you could probably get into an older HT Stumpy for similar $$ nowadays
Shiiiiit I bought this when I working for uncle Mike.
snuck out of work for a ride up to south table. accidentally got on a closed “trail” but enjoyed myself anyway. never seen deer up there before, so that was cool
Me and my friend always ride after work on Fridays. I was about to head from work to the beer store/meet up spot and there was a dude on a 2010s Crux looking bummed that the food cart I work at was closed. So I says to the guy I says, “uh sorry man we’re all closed up…wanna ride bikes?” And he says, “uhh okay.” Then we go for a bike ride all three of us.
