Found some more gun emplacements I didnt know about on our very relaxed ride today. Not off any offical trails as such.
I went on an epic .3 mile ride to the lake to get the boy some fresh air after him basically not leaving the house for a week.
I drove to the trail and decided I had not dressed warm enough and drove home
I was waffling between exploring and going to the mini bike park for the nth time today, so I just set off toward the latter with the intention of riding out the back to reach another mtb zone I’ve heard about.
I took a path on the way to the park that I had been eyeing the exit of for a few weeks. It just goes fall line at the end. I missed actual steepness and roots and stuff since I’ve been just been slaying the clay-hard buff singletrack in the park.
Started pushing my way up an uphill trail in the park and noticed that the downhill trail right next to it, which I’ve never been on, is just about 800 vertical feet of berms with little poppy sections linking them. So I know what I’m doing next weekend:
So I did it, I resisted just staying in the park. Though I had all the reason in the world to just hang out because it was pretty hot and I had no idea where to procure more water than I had on me. One photo I snapped on the way to the mystery trail area:
Trail area was good but also rock hard with brake bumps that I’d rank at about 6/10 intensity. So kind of not worth a visit. I’ve been looking for some loamy trails but apparently that’s hard to find around here. Then, crikey, I started making my way back toward the city. Probably 3 hours in on 1 bottle on a hot sunny day. I thought it was basically all downhill from the furthest point. This hope was slowly destroyed as I embarked on what turned out to be the longest climb of the day at 3 fucking miles lol. It has been a while since I wanted to get off my bike and hurl it off a cliff. I really began cursing that I have minions and (lightweight) tire inserts on this wheelset. It is not set up for long gradual climbing.
After this it was mostly downhill. I’m just gonna stick to the bike park for the next few weeks.
who put these mountains in front of my mountain bike! wth
is this capitol reef on the east side?
i was there in decembre it was so good. I didn’t ride up that road, but we did ride up some canyons at the top.
a little further east, over in the bears ears national monument/valley of the gods area. I haven’t spent much time in Capitol Reef but it seems sweet!
I went for a little ride after work today trying to hit as much dirt as I could. I complain about all of the rain we’ve had lately here in LA but it makes everything so green and makes me happy. Also wild peacocks, because why not?
Absolutely pristine autumn morning here in Sydney. Got out for a nice rural loop and saw some stuff and went to a coffee shop.
Gotta fit a cafe into all our sunday rides too !
Dang that looks nice. Why don’t I live there?
No photos but it’s gonna take a few to get my hands and feet back into it
Only photo I got today
Found the LSC adjust on my shock and stuck the fork back into trail mode after upping the pressure bigly a couple weeks ago. I think I accepted today that this bike will never feel as plush and confident as my larger bike and I should just roll with it. Also that these clay packed flow trails require the boingers to be closed down a bit in order to get appropriate support for berms and jump lips.
Still the wrong tool for the job but the stiffer suspension made the bike feel more predictable and so led me to enjoying the trails more. All I have to do is ignore that I’m not using all my fork travel.
