Been like 7 years or so since i rode this peak. It’s newly renamed to Mt Blue Sky. Took a different route this time which extended the ride about 10 miles and another 1000 ft ish. 90 degrees in Denver that, 40-something and windy af at the summit.

Rode it with my work bff Tony, who is the best ride buddy for something like this. Way faster than me but rode my pace and we chatted the whole way up.

Marmot count: 3
Goat count: ? I think i saw the same one 4x but unsure if it was actually two different goats

66 miles, 7900 ft

That looks fucked up. How’s long does the descent off something like that take?

That looks amazing and brutal.
One time, many years ago, I was backpacking in the Wind Rivers, walking through a pretty narrow pass with cliffs on either side. There was a goat family up on a cliff. The big daddy goat kept following the cliff line as we walked, yelling at us and kicking rocks down. It was totally terrifying. Goats are awesome.

About 90 minutes but that included 700 ft of climbing on the way back. The first 10 miles out or so is full of huge cracks and kind of sucks ass, but the second half rips.

If you’re ever back in Portland, they repaved Larch Mountain Rd. Descent is killer.

Lots of people come do it for a bucket list ride. It’s like a 4% average or something like that so that helps.

That said… are you coming to Estes again this year? Trail Ridge rd has similar scenery though it tops out at like 12k instead of 14k feet and you can climb up Old Fall River rd (dirt) and descend the pavement.

I’ll also have tues-thu off this summer if you are coming back so more possibility to meet up for a ride.

All my rides look like this nowadays. I’m not complaining at all. I feel so so lucky that I live in a place where I can live a beautiful car-free lifestyle, but man that mountain ride looks epic. I miss recreational suffering.
