Fat biking is going great but we also have snow shoes and nordic skis so we’re sorted all the way around.
Two hours at the super local spot today. This place is so well designed; the parking lot was full but barely saw anyone.
Early morning ATB™ ride to meet a buddy for breakfast.
-9C, compacted thawed-then-re-frozen snow, and some badly-plowed bike lanes, made for an exciting ride.
Got some unexpected time off. Oh well, perfect time to finally swap tires, install fenders, rack and rando bag. Packed some food, my new coffee rig and spent the day exploring local parks. Gonna just ride all damn day long.
I went for a ride today to try out the new pogies from @frank_doktor. My hands were toasty warm - these will be great when it’s 20 degrees colder. There’s so much salt and sand on the roads right now.
Hell yeah, glad they can get some use!
I’m definitely pogie curious, but at the same time grateful that I don’t live someplace where I’d actually need them
I see how they’d be good for either a sporty road ride where you’re on the hoods the whole time or maybe a simple commute without a lot of signaling turns or navigating traffic. If you need to move your hands around the bars a lot, the pogies will be frustrating or dangerous. It’s hard to get your hands from the tops of the bars into the pogies to reach the brakes quickly. Only needing to wear light liner gloves is really nice.
Nice day at Partridge Hills. I have zero confidence on wet exposed rock now after crashing in November. Spent the whole ride wondering why I had so much chainslap and only noticed my derailleur clutch was off on the ride home.
Swapped my large Reeb frame (which I always found kinda ugly) for this little medium Norco Fluid frameset and I’m super happy with it. I love how boring it is.
Nice and challenging day out. Saw some deer and a bald eagle and the only marble light house in the USA.
Your winter cycling is much more picturesque than mine. Chicago’s snow and ice response has been completly pathetic this year, nearly non-existent.
I almost went down with Ro in the box this morning. It’s Packed churn over polished ice on 90% of the side streets.
I’ve seen five flipped or otherwise totaled cars with my own eyes this week.
Here’s what Clark street through Lincoln Park looked like yesterday afternoon before it snowed another couple inches of wet stuff overnight. I honestly don’t know what the City is thinking not running the plows, but it feels like societal collapse to me. First the plow trucks stop running, then the water and sewer systems break down and then it’s a new Dark Age.
Yeah that sounds like my experience living in Chicago tbh.
Snow klunkin’ with the 38 week pregnant wife. This plus some super spicy food should get labor started probably???
anecdotally worked for us on the 2nd kid…
I’m pretty sure it’s a legit thing… we’ll see in a couple weeks if things aren’t moving.
Eating a whole bunch of pineapple may have induced labor for my wife. Either way, it was tasty.
I’m pretty sure the Dogman movie induced labor for miss B
