It sounds like that Bafang kit is just programmed to a 15A / 25 km/h limit. You could accomplish the same thing with any other programmable setup (unless they’re super strict about that stuff, but even the Bafang kit can be reprogrammed).
How do they police this? Like do they carry a field tool that can test it somehow?
Otherwise just do like the outboard boat motor folks do on horsepower restricted lakes: replacement decal kit for the motor in the appropriate powerway.
Bafang takes about a minute to reprogram. If its anything like my basic one.
I have no idea. I’ve never seen an e-bike inspection in particular, but I have seen the police parked next to bicycle paths in the park or on major commute routes pulling people over for inspection. Generally seems like the people pulled over were riding brakeless or don’t have lights. Apparently they can also cite you for not having reflectors for daytime riding (but this does not apply to “racing” bikes).
Oh interesting. I suspect I’ll dip into the ebike thread at some point then ![]()
X-post from Future-Tarckstars
Shakedown ride on the redline for all the new changes. Took a quick break in the shade under some trees that was long enough for my paused Garmin to decide it should end the ride on its own.
Evening ride out to Brownsville on the Radlawn. I have to get rid of the noodle bars for a shorter reach, flip the stem, and figure out the front rack and bag situation.
How do you like the handlebar?
Rode to Wisconsin and ate a burrito with my family (burrito not pictured)
State trail had a mildly rad horse trail adjacent for a number of miles, I yolo’d it with the ever present thrill of risking a head-on collision with a horse
The Stillwater lift bridge? If so it has attained its best form!
Yeah. I rode across it waiting for my family just to say I rode to Wisconsin. It’s pretty cool but there is nothing but a giant hill and rural Wisconsin on the other side.
I grew up out there and knew many a traffic jam due to the bridge being up…
It’s a really long day if you start the ride in Minneapolis, but going up that big hill and heading north to the crossing in Osceola and coming back through Marine is pretty nice (then picking up the gateway trail). Going to be a while before I have that kind of fitness/time again.
Is that oogen?
