Also did a bit of tandumb riding today. Not nearly as rad tho
Pretty sure the rear hub is toast – it locked up on the way up the last hill to my house. Opened it up, looks like the ratchet teeth on the hub are damaged. Really frustrating.

Went for a little 4th of July camping ride with the wife

Shitty picture, but the campsite actually had a nice secluded feel even it it really wasn’t

Nice thing about the short camping rides (shorter than a tarck century) is that you can haul tons of crap with you, like 10 cans of beer in a cooler

An 8 mile ride home in the morning is a good hangover cure too
fuck yeah BLL in a can
i can only find it in bottles around here. admittedly i havent looked that hard
went on a 70-80 mile ride on independence day. the last ~10?15? miles were gravel.

the last photo is the climb up to my M/FIL’s place. there are a couple switchbacks and then a pretty steep gravel climb (for a bicycle)
Everybody I know was doing cool shit for the long weekend so I figured I should do some cool shit too. Was gonna ride up to Chequamegon-Nicolet Nat’l Forest over 3 days to meet up with some friends and camp for a night, then I figured I should yolo up to Lake Superior while I was so close, then I figured I should do it in 2 days so I could say I did my first 600k. Took my sweet time, burned a few hours watching fireworks and drinking beers, rode lots of gravel, ate real food, made it in 39:57
used all 4 maps
biek and a river
caught some 7/4 fireworks and camped overnight in Medford WI
National Forest Road 566
Lake Superior
East Twin Lake, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

These were some kind of new 12oz narrow-can devilry. Actually a very handy size for packing, and so amazing after six hours of dusty climbing in broiler-level heat.
Ugh fuck you guys going cool places and riding long distances. My ride with the wife was like 15 miles round trip, lol
Fucking beats not going anywhere.
yeah I just rode around looking at drunk people
would have loved a 15 mile o’ernighter. Next year with babby?
Yeah, I guess that’s true.
TC: the 15 miler is actually pretty nice since I’m no endurance rider in the first place. Leave ~3pm, get back by 10 am. Actually, I think we got home by 9am this time since there was a storm coming and we needed to high-tail it (another reason why being only 7.5 miles from home is nice).
Dude I would be all over it if there were somewhere to camp within 10 miles. As much as I love riding bikes, it would be cool to have more time to enjoy the not biking parts too. Living at the intersection of suburbia and agriculture really sucks in this regard, unless I want to poach some cow pastures (which I really don’t).
move to seattle, where bike camping lives™
I’ll make it there eventally. So far Colmbus -> Indianapolis -> Madison, so moving west slowly but surely.

look in the 24oz can fridge
Went on vacation to Lopez Island with supgirl and did some (almost) bike glamping. Campgrounds had tent sites or cabins but provided tent sites with clean showers, bathrooms, grills, sinks, microwaves, coffee, hammocks, chairs, tables & bocce pit. The only thing we were missing was semi-permanent glamping tent on a platform with cots.
Not sure why driving your car to these islands seems appealing on a holiday weekend but the satisfaction of rolling by hundreds of cars waiting for the ferry inspires the epitome of smugness.
San Juan Island life was pretty ideal for our intended goal. Food, wine, fancy farm camping, views, parks within easy biking distance, fairly flat, half-assed “bike friendly” town, babby deer everywhere.
Unfortunately sprinkled on and off the first couple days which wasn’t burdensome, just annoying & grey. Still had fun and Supgirl allowed me to be perma-stoned the entire trip which helped with staying in my granny gear and pedaling really slow.

Rode up (actually multi-modal’d it via Max) to PIR to watch the short track racing. Absolutely getting in on that action as soon as I can, looks fun as shit on the moto course.

Hell yeah, Andrew. Bike touring the San Juans is so good.
