I found it was often difficult to get the DT tool to fully seat on them, and that could be exacerbated depending on how deep the nipple is in the rim and the spoke angle.
I prefer Sapim double square as well as Sapim Race spokes over DT Comp. Could be the DT products are getting counterfeited more frequently and I ended up with some. Quality was just not there.
double square for sure, nipple classic (screwdriver slot on the head) if not. There may be a tool that gives really good confident purchase on a squorx head such that you don’t ever get it half seated, turn, and round the fucker off so you can’t get it to work.
barring counterfeits, I’ve not experienced differences between the big brands of simple spokes.
I haven’t either until that one batch of DT Comp that just seemed… not finished well. Had the stamp on the J-Bend part and all. Probably fake.
What’s a good shallow section 24h 700c carbon gravel rim before I impulse buy some overstock ENVE G23?
Link?
No link. Just a couple 2022 rims in the basement of the shop.
OK, I had forgotten how inexpensive light bicycle rims are.
Falcon AR24 are a small fraction of the cost of ENVE, apples and oranges maybe? I know a couple folks here have other LB rims and I don’t remember hearing anything bad about them.
I don’t have a ton of miles on my AR465s but they seem pretty good so far. Was just looking at the AR24 or 375 too…
i know some people who are pretty discerning who are all about making their own dropouts and everything but their cable stops who spec them for customers
its what im doing when i get a fast wheelset for the c/g
LB and Nextie are both great. Lately I’ve been working my way through a big batch of Nextie rims at the moment and they have all built up with ease. The finish on the LB Falcon pro stuff is really impressive though.
I just checked and if you order wheels from the NA warehouse, LB will build them with Berd polyspokes if you wanna pony up the cash ![]()
for lighter faster second wheelset for c/g, 700c- what rims should i get? 24h, probably dt350 front and rear (although who am i kidding it’ll probably become the wheelset that spends the most time on there so i should probably dynamo it anyway)
thats fucking light. do be mindful that the max pressure is 70 psi on those rims
They’d be wearing 32-42mm tires, max I’d run would be 50psi👌
I currently have 4 sets of LB rims or wheels. I can find nothing bad to say about them. They’re ahead of the curve on wheel development in terms of things like width, high TG resin, tubeless compatibility etc. I’ve absolutely abused my ones, even destroyed a set that lived well beyond what anyone could expect a rim to endure.
I can’t imagine that Enve could produce a product that’s far superior. Probably they do more aero testing but they’ve been consistently behind the times on width and tubeless.
As for Falcon vs Falcon Pro…. I like the finishes better on the Falcon. The Pro has a more durable finish, better resin, newer designs, and a sprinkling of higher modulus CF.
The AR24 Is very similar in section and manufacture to the R25 set that I have. I love it. Surprisingly more comfortable than a deep section wheel.
The wide enve AR wheels came out in 2016
IIRC they aren’t that wide.
25mm internal width is pretty wide and was really novel for a road wheel set at the time ![]()
