Is there a wheelbuilding thread yet?

Thank you!

I’m sussing out components for new rim brake 700c wheels and am stuck at rims. I’ve narrowed it down to pacenti forza or dt r460

both are wide-ish, tubeless, black and close enough to same weight

pacenti is 2x expensive and newer so less of a known quantity, but also 2mm wider, welded and comes in off center version for the rear which seems nice for 130old 11s hubs

Whats tarck say?

  1. I’ve built my last new Pacenti. I’ve had every variation have at least a couple crack including the latest. I can’t say that about any other mfg.

By latest you mean from the current models? I haven’t read anything to suggest new forzas/brevets have been cracking but would stay away if so

I understood using Pacenti when they were the only game in town, but I don’t think that they make a single rim that doesn’t overlap with the offerings of a company with a superior reputation and warranty

So what’s up with pacenti? I had some SL23’s shit the bed on me back when they were new, but that was 5 or 6 years ago. How are they still having such basic quality control problems?

gross. I don’t think you’re supposed to take them to bed with you.

I’ve heard good things lately. My buddy Tommy at Cutlass Velo does a lot of Pacenti builds and has good things to say. That and the new Astral offerings.

I get that but in this case it’s an alternative with some better features than the r460, ie wider and welded joint. If the pinned joint on the DT rim is nice and smooth then I don’t care, and the advantage of 2mm extra width is debatable but they are still specifications that separate the two rims.

I don’t know that this is true, though they have had issues in the past.

I just noticed that bikehubstore decided to stop selling pacenti rims so that may be a sign of quality issues, or something else entirely

I’m taking @ergott word on this as someone who builds a lot of wheels. I build like two sets of wheels a year max.

isn’t there a welded RR designation equivalent to the r460? maybe i’m thinking the equivalent to the disc 470

dang. was hoping for that rim minus 10

They are real nice. I’ve built up a few with Sapim D-Light spokes for riders under 150lbs. I can’t remember the exact weight of the set with centerlock 350s… but I do remember being impressed.

no doubts, just was hoping they made the equivalent in rim brake. r470:r460::rr421:rrXXX

ZTR Arch MK3 27.5, says max tyre 2.5

Bad idea mounting and running a 2.6?

I’d do it
