Is there a wheelbuilding thread yet?

Summoning @JUGE_FREDD as I bet he has an opinion.

lol I started replying but deleted it

yes Straight Pull is theoretically superior, especially in an engineered system

but practically when crossed on the DS Rear it’s going to make the more critical bracing angle worse, and with normal flange dimensions it’s not going to have more than 28 spokes

if you are doing a clyde thing where you expect to be pushing things, use 32 3-cross J-bend spokes that are 2.3mm at the head, and do not compromise on the rim quality to get more spokes

if you have strong+stiff carbon rims and 24 spokes 2x that’s the ideal scenario for straight pull, especially in an engineered integrated product

So I’m lacing up the second front with the SP hub and the center of that long logo thing won’t line up with the valve hole either, it seems like there isn’t an orientation that would do it, even on a opposite handed rim. Is it possible that because these hubs are screwed together in the middle that it’s just luck if you get one that nails it?

It seems like it will line up with the “PL-7,” but not the “SP.” Would that look less stupid than it being slight off center?

Some hubs, some drillings are not possible to center perfectly. You just have to look at it and see what you respond to.

Boo.

Close enough is ok. It will never bother you later on is my prediction.

Well, at least both wheel sets will match in their wrongness.

I haven’t really looked at hub tech for several years. I bought a set of TA hubs with QR endcaps and now I guess there’s just no axle when they’re run QR? Is this ok?

this is where the art of wheelbuilding comes into play

What hubs? Probably yes.

DT Swiss 350. Surprising is all really, something that seems like a big deal for the weight and complexity savings that I just never got around to finding out until now.

Definitely yes. Old caps off, new caps on. Bingo bongo.

the thing that goes through a TA hub isn’t really the axle. it’s akin to a skewer, and is basically just a big ol bolt. it’s kinda neat.

I’m here to sing the praises of the HED Belgium G

Laced it 2x to my SP hub and it was within 3mm in both dimensions just by evenly bringing it up to tension without even using the arms on the truing stand. What a pleasure.

that was my experience with belgium plus. just getting the nipples to evenly cover the threads made it incredibly wheel-like

Hopefully the snow melts by Thursday.

Obv. I’ll add discs before I install the wheels…

I didn’t know you could actually buy those S-TRs yet!

But damn, almost 2x price of regular GP5ks (in Nude Beach at least)

Yeah, most expensive tires I’ve ever bought. Buy once, buy right, right?

Mounted right up, no levers, no sealant, no fancy pump either.

I’ll add sealant now, of course, I just wanted to see if they’d mount.

Thanks for the reminder

I just bought 32mm for the new Mercian

25mm seems in short supply, so I got these instead to replace the first-gen gp5k that I’ve been riding for three years now including PBP

has this been discussed yet? I know there was some mention of dyneema spokes in the rando thread. Are they worth it at all? I think its some kind of BS I could into trying.
